I've wanted to make a thread like this in the haven since I joined, but my problems seem so trivial compared to some things I've read here. But this is something I want to resolve, so here it is:

Over the last 10 months my mood has become unpredictable. On some days I'm full of energy and joy and I'm able to put a positive spin on nearly everything. Other days I'm feeling terrible and almost suicidal. Then there are days when I feel neutral, but this may be a result of boredom. The moods can last for as long as a week but there are times when they last for less than a day, like today. This is now at the stage where I don't know how I will feel the next day. For example, I may go to bed feeling unhappy but wake up feeling perfectly fine.

These constant mood swings have never happened to me before. There are a few things in my life that may be the cause of this but I would just be speculating and these things are not causing constant stress (I have a lot of free time at the moment). I'll give more details later but now I'm just trying to make sense of everything happening to me lately.

I don't get stressed if there's alot to do at work. Actually opposite. But I do get stressed if there's many people around, or if I'm going to do something I'm not comfortable with.
In these stressed times my mood goes down alot(!). But as soon as the stress-factors are gone, I'm full of joy again.

So yeah, you are not alone. And it could very well be the stress.

Do you know what causes you the stress?
Can it be avoided?

Or cyclothymia, a lesser form of bipolar.

I think it's definitely worth asking a doctor about since your mood swings seem so erratic and unconnected to events in your life.

You should ask a doctor about getting screened for bipolar disorder. It is a common comorbid condtition that occurs along side ASDs.

Interesting. The start of the mood swings seemed to coincide at a point in my life that was causing a lot of emotional stress. Eventually this stress started to subside but recently there was something else which caused similar stress, and the mood swings became more serious again. I didn't tell anyone about this stress which could have made things worse. Your post helped to bring this to my attention so thank you!

I'm not sure if its bipolar or anything similar but I'll look at possible types of teatment. As for the causes of the stress I may not be able to eliminate them completely and I feel I really should explain these problems to someone, so I might make another thread on this. I'll keep you updated if there are any developments.

By the way, my mood is ok today :)

For me, it could be ..one minute Im happy, but then something could go wrong, then Im either very depressed or very pissed off...Its very easy to anger or upset me.One time I had an assignment and my laptop deleted it somehow....I freaked out and posted a not so nice msg on facebook.....then when I finished it eventually and handed it in, I was as happy as an Albertan rippin happily down the QE2 on a nice sunny day headin down to Calgary from Red Deer for the Stampede.
