Don't Worry Be Happy by Bobby McFerrin upsets me, but for different reasons.

In general there are songs that get me angry, especially country music that's specifically Binary Gendered target audience. A Lot of songs anger me because a lot of then just SUCK!
But I do remember that my Grandmother played me a song (yes, unfortunately it was country. LOL) called "Gates and the floors of Heaven" and she played this to me a week before she died. That was upsetting because I really liked my Grandma. I used to pester her as a kid acting all silly and annoying her for my own amusement. LOL Good Times, Good Times LOL But seriously she died when I was maybe 11 or 12. Her spirit came to visit in to dreams. One saying a final goodbye and showing what Heaven might look like. I know that I believe in spirits and they're probably people who don't so I'll just leave it at that. :)

Yeah, i cant really stand songs like that . . . seems like all they do is talk about the singer's/song writer's good fortune, and in turn that makes certain folks feel inadequate. But remember, these songs and movies are fantasy oriented, and because our brain wiring is different, we dont get much joy out of them. I'll admit, I tend to listen to Nightwish (I really like "Amaranth" and "Sleeping Sun") and a few Linkin Park ("What Ive done" used in Transformers, "Numb" and "In the End" are the only ones). To me, these songs are realistic . . . why would i want to listen to music that would delude me into thinking otherwise about this world. Granted, this is an existential world we live in . . . but anything more "up beat" or "lively" i cant stand because they are hardly realistic.

I feel sad when I hear songs about people waking up one day and realising the best days of their life are behind them. That's my greatest fear.

I agree with what PlatedDrake said about songs being unrealistic. What about that "T-Shirt" song by Shontelle, where it says, "sick of this dress and these Jimmy Choos..." etc? Once I remarked to my friends that the woman is basically boasting and complaining at the same time - "my boyfriend just broke up with me, but my shoes are still more expensive than yours." :P

I can be rather cynical about song lyrics, I love finding inaccuracies, fallacies, and other things that I can make fun of in them.
