Write down how you're feeling. That helps me a lot.
I concur with that. Some other ideas:
*Write down/think about good times you've had, when you were at your happiest.
*Listen to some quiet instrumental music. I listen to Beethoven, Bach, Mahler, Ives, Kraftwerk, Vangelis and Brian Eno when I'm depressed.
*Dispute your emotional state using logic and reason. Depression is neither logical nor rational.
*Take a walk outside.
*Call a friend.
*Call a hotline if things get really bad and you don't want to call a friend.
*If you believe in God, talk to God and ask why you're feeling this way.
*Stay in your funk. Accept it. Don't fight it but don't deny it. Listen to it. You might find some answers that may surprise you.
I've given a bunch of ideas because different methods work at different times.
I hope this helps. May God be between you and harm in all the dark places you must walk.
