Is it possible to "recover lost happiness", or is there only create new?

I remember being happy in younger years and remember specific things connected with that happiness.

Somewhere along he way happiness has been lost.

Have been remembering some things bringing; connected to; intertwined with; that remembered happiness.

I want that happiness back.

But somehow remembering those things interwoven with that happiness, instead of connecting with or even resurrecting that happiness, only brings sadness that the happiness is dead and gone.

I am not happy.
I am empty.

What it is said to do to bring fulfillment through faith brings only a sense of numbness.

Since that didn't work I went shopping - bigtime.
An old, old, habit.

And I'm still empty.

looking at that sig line down there, my "inner guidance" has had a nervous breakdown.

Do you have anything that could possibly make you feel happy now?

Would helping out others help you? In real life, like shelters or other places that require volunteers.

southwestforests, I really feel I can relate though I don't know everything that motivated me. I know I use to believe in a god which sort of gave me personal meaning to life before I learned more about religion and other factors.

This issue is often confusing for me though I don't know all the specifics with you. I know for myself I've had to make meaning which isn't easy. Most of what I made didn't come out of nowhere though but came from obstacles I had to overcome. I've had to find it through simplicity rather than relying on external sources to make me feel happy. I'm not exactly sure what you define happy in your case, for me it was people and those who supported me through the problems I had in addiction and recovery. It was also things that I loved so much but again the motivation behind those things is not very clear and is probably different for everybody.

A lot of times I'm not either.
Guess some constancy in that definition might help :?: :?

That makes sense.
Take it as sort of a "do what I love 'and damn the torpedoes' " kind of thing :?:

I often feel very much the same way. I seems to me that every year becomes a little more begrudging. I felt happier years ago, and would like to find that spark again.

I have learned though, that I am happiest when I am doing things, not just moping around the house. The happiest time of my life is when I was working two part time jobs and going to school.

Even though it is hard sometimes for me as well, you need to get out and find things to do. Volunteer, take on a part time job, take in a cultural or sporting event, travel, do things that you enjoy. Also, if you do a variety of things, nothing gets boring.

I hope this advice helps.
