I hate it when I'm trying to say something and everyone just ignores me. I hate it more than anything.

You and me both. I avoid parties at work because of it. Every time I say something a co worker has to be rude to me and hurt my feelings. I don't know why. I remember when a co worker's cousin lost his life in a horrible way, and I was the only person at work who gave this co worker a sympathy card. So I don't think I am a bad person. :? :(

Yeah I hate that. My mom does that a lot when I start talking about something she doesn't care about. It's really confusing because I usually talk very softly, so when people ignore me I'm not sure if it's because they can't hear me or they don't like what I'm saying....it's very confusing.

I think worse than that though is being interrupted. I hate being interrupted because it takes me so much effort to speak up and say something that to me being interrupted is such a shut down. It makes me feel so incompetent.

I hate that, too. I think part of my issue is that my comment often is too complex or too loosely related to the flow of the conversation. And part of the problem is that others don't have the social skills and social confidence to bring me back into the flow, to steer my comment back toward what they have in mind.

So the main social skill is to be brief, go ahead and make a mistake (if it is indeed a mistake), just be ready to take the sideways step from the mistake.

I remember reading that the writer John Steinbeck at one point was living in a cabin Northern California, trying to write. The big social event was mail delivery, most neighbors would gather around, waiting for the postal employee to announce their name. John would sometimes throw out a comment, about the weather, about how long it had been since last time, whatever. That was one of his styles. And he appreciated it when someone else picked up on the comment.

If you try to talk and people ignore you, make a loud noise or pound your fists on a table or blow an air horn to get their attention or knock something over.

I hate it when people do that to me, as well. It happened when I was on the carol ship, last Saturday. I was talking to one other woman from my clubhouse who won the trip, and she proceded to talk to some stranger about something completley different from what I was talking to her, about. I just walked right in front of her and came face to face and said, "I'm not finished talking to you!" It felt very akward for me, and it's too bad that it had to happen like that, because if I was given the choice, I wouldn't do that to anybody. I had no choice. I had to but in, between her and that man.

I have become unglued when, especially after being asked for assistance or explanation, I am completely ignored... have erupted most unpleasantly at times as a result.
