Hi,

I am fairly new to the dx, if not to the symptoms of AS.........so bare with me please.

Stimulation over Xmas is a given. Most people feel tired and a little anti-climactic when all is over......

I have diazepam when I feel really overwhelmed so that has helped a little and Xmas was very successful compared to other years, I must say.

But I feel completely numb, very discordant, uncomfortable and my family feel like strangers after every Xmas I have ever had.

And strangely enough I feel very teary.......although tears are difficult for me and often suffer terrible sinus which is hardly cathartic. I feel hopeless and more than a little futility. I just think I have overdone it. Have I experienced a meltdown?

The expression, although not new to me, really put some perspective on the periods of extremely heightened "feelings"......it almost borders on a tantrum followed by days of hiding in dark places, no speaking, and intense discord related to noise.

It is something I shall discuss with my therapist........just wanted to see if others have felt this way.

Thanks for listening.......

Micchsta

Personally I'd call that shutdown but I don't really know what that means either lol I had a meltdown on xmas day actually and it involved shouty swearing smashing stuff up and running away to sit in the dark, a tantrum like you say is what I'd call a meltdown. It's basically a violent release after or due to extreme frustration as I understand it.

Thanks racooneyes........you explained it much better than I!

That makes sense........

I hope your day turned out better after feeling so frustrated. Did you have some support through it and was it in response to something that happened?

Take care and thanks for you input.......
