Racial prejudice
More often than not I get the feel of a great deal of racial prejudice on this site. I know it's not my imagination but I thought that "some" if not most of the white people on this site would be a bit more open-minded than the NT world. Their comments on many topics smell of racism...especially about the earthquake that hit Haiti. They seem to be cruel because it is a nation of color. Sometimes, you can read a post and see the racism as plain as day. It's really rather sad.
In forums in general, I find that it's often hard to definitively detect racism because you don't know the race or ethnicity or (often) national origin of the person writing the post.
However, people can quite obviously be racist at times, and I have seen it here, but no more than anywhere else.
The threads here that seem racist to me are the ones in which the OP suggests that AS is more common among a certain population, and supports this idea with "evidence" that seems ignorant and of a racist tone. But I also assume that there are a lot of people posting here who have limited experience interacting with a variety of people. There are a lot of young people, and people who have led relatively isolated lives due to ASD-related issues. So a lot of them probably don't comprehend the implications of what they are saying . . . .
And I'm sorry if that last paragraph sounds offensive - don't mean to stereotype anyone. It's a difficult subject to tackle in this context.
Haiti isn't looked down on because the people who live there are black, it is looked down on because the government is completely corrupt and has turned the place into a [blank]hole. With Katrina, the things got out of hand after the system broke down. In Haiti, this is still business as usual, but with more dead people and fewer standing structures. No food or water there? Lawlessness? The earthquake didn't change much; just made the rape murder and pillaging happen a bit faster for the time being.
As for racism as part of WP, it is an issue. There are always trolls on the chat room claiming that aspies are planning to take over the world or some equally stupid thing, but that is only one part of the problem. There are conflicting ideas about curing autism - some people believe that it should be eradicated outright, making it sound like a plague, while others, especially auties, claim that autism is an integral part of their personalities. It's very much like the one X-Men movie.
People will only be as open-minded as they want. Much of prejudice has to do with how people are raised. I recall a documentary of some sort about the crew of a US Navy carrier. One crew member was a racist and was ultimately discharged for related offenses. Conversely, when he was drunk on shore-leave, he was shown hanging on a black crew member's shoulder, trying to apologize and explain how he had been raised by racist parents.

I have my fears
But they do not have me
i get the opposite impression.
i have been called a "racist bigot" and a "homophobic" on this site in very aggressive ways.
eg: i said that australian aboriginals can not handle alcohol, and that was enough for me to be howled out of that thread.
another post in the past asked whether i would turn gay under any circumstances, and i said "no", and when i was angrily asked "why?!", i replied that i was not attracted to men in any way, and then i was called a "homophobe" by the majority of people.
i am tired of people sniffing the floor for any snippet of perceived bigotry that they can find that gives them "justification" to post in protest, and as a side effect, display themselves.
it is a cheap way to be.
i am not racist or homophobic but i have a reputation for being both on this site.
i have an opposite view to you

B9 whom ever called you homophobic is clearly the one that is homophobic. Only a very stupid ignorant person could actually think that homosexuality is something people just 'start' doing as if its a choice. One of my closest life long friends is homosexual and its always been clear, even when we were children, that he was different in that way. as for this talk of racism I have seen alot of both racists and those who are so obsessed with complaining about racism that they call people a racist for a simple statement's like aboriginals cant handle alcohol. which is a silly thing to call racist its a well known fact that population's of humans adapt to certain foods and psychoactive. I have seen it myself and it makes sense because alcohol has only been available in Australia and the Americas since the coming of the Europeans in the last few centuries which is no time at all compared to the thousands and thousands of years that Caucasians have been using it. Why cant people accept that different race's do have somewhat different qualities? that doesn't mean that any one group is superior its just that we just have developed different traits over time from generations of regional breeding. just like how some horses are race horses and others are work horses
