I need help.
Guys, I am in need of desparate help. Life is getting me down. I want a $6000-9000 home theater, but to do that requires obtaining a better job, and I haven't had much luck with that. I send out resumes via craigslist, and no one calls or emails me back. The job search is really getting me down. I haven't played the wii in like 6 months, I only play my Nintendo DS when I'm going to bed, I spend most of my day on the Internet watching Youtube videos, and when I'm off the computer, the only thing I want to do is spin my KNEX ceiling fan.
I love home theater systems, but I can't afford one right now. And no, I don't just want an ordinary home theater in a box, those don't sound as good as separate components. I feel like life is trying to force me into a lifestyle I'm bored with. Please help! I don't want to be poor. I hate this economy!! !
I suggest, while you are waiting for someone to see your resume on Craigslist and decide that you are head-and-shoulders above the 5000 resumes they actually receive in their offices, that you open the employment adverts and see if there are any other jobs that you can do (not that you necessarily like, but can do) and apply for them. Also check your local employment service - Sorry, I didn't notice if you were in the States or not. If so, every state has an employment service for free. They tend to not always have the best jobs, but they don't charge anything for looking through them. Hopefully you have some references who will vouch for your work habits and character. Use the money for bills while waiting for your dream job (and dream frivol/theatre) to become a reality.
It's a hideous job market out there right now, you had best be prepared to take anything you can get. The last time I was unemployed the market for jobseekers was much better - still, it took me 8 hours per day, every day, for almost a month to land something that paid what I needed, had benefits that I needed, and that I could tolerate. If you're sitting around watching YouTube all day, you're not looking hard enough for a job. It is hard work, and not much fun, but you have to do what you have to do to get ahead sometimes, even if it's not fun.
Good luck!

Last time I checked, the definitions of 'poor' and 'in desperate need of help' did not include the words 'does not possess a $6000-9000 home theatre'...
Putting an ad in craiglist probably won't achieve much anyway, so I don't think you can blame the economy for your lack of employment until you actually exhaust all possible avenues. Go down to your local job centre and ask for a job and try walking around town and see if any shops have 'wanted' signs in their windows. Send in your CV to as many companies as possible and to make it look good, try to take up a few more hobbies other than watching Youtube or your ceiling fan...
Nan makes a good point; if you want to be able to afford the theatre you want, you may have to accept a job you dislike and put a lot more effort into finding it. It's up to you to decide how 'desperate' you are for this commodity and how soon you want it.
I'm sorry to tell you this but the majority of jobs listed on Craigslist are bogus and do not exist and are there solely to get your personal information. There are SOOO many legitimate job sites out there. Monster.com is a very good one. Look at temp agencies in your area.
I generally don't bash anyone on a forum but I think a small smackdown is in order. You are so far from being poor. Poor is not having a place to live and food to eat. when you are truely poor the last thing on your mind is a new home theater. You have a Wii and a Nintendo DS. If you were really poor you'd have to sell those items in order to buy food. Be thankful that you have a job right now when so many people out there do not.
(I'll step off my soapbox now)
