The vet just told us she could die any day now. She's 14 and I've had her since I was 8. My heart hurts.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I've had my dear feline friends die, and it's never easy - even the most recent one, who was in extreme old age. I told myself he'd lived a very full and good life, but it didn't make his passing any easier for me.

Please try to take comfort, if it's at all possible, in knowing that your cat knows of your love for it.And that matters so much to them.

I feel for you, because I've had many cats die in my lifetime. You have my condolences. :(

You have my condolances also. I had to put my cat to sleep 3 years ago because of intestinal cancer, he was 15. I got him as a Christmas present when I was 10, he was also the best one ever.

My condolances too. Our family-dog was put to sleep yesterday.
He was a great, and calm dog, and a really good friend (if you can say so).
He had epilepsy, and last week was a hell, an attack every hour.
Then he was put on medication, and it didn't stop anything the first 12 hours, after that he couldn't even "hold his water". :(

My parents decided to do the best for him, and though I was (and is) sad, I thought it was the right thing to do.

My wife and I recently lost her cat of 14 years... it has left a void in our lives. I can only sympathize with what you must be experiencing right now.

I'm so sorry.

I had a cat of 10 years who had to be put down. I still miss her, she was my baby.

Sorry to hear this about your cat! My daughter and I had to put our cat down, over 15 years ago. I still miss her. I couldn't let her suffer though, as she had cancer. It took me 3 years before letting another cat "adopt" me.

I've had many a cat pass on in my life. The oldest were two 20 year olds - They lived longer then me, and had been around before my birth! its weird to think about. Both were put down by a Vet unfortunately.

I am so sorry to hear that though - Hope your lives were splendid together. Hope you two will be meet again in another life!

We have just lost our beautiful cat Tom Tom, he died very suddenly without any apparant cause. I've had so many pets over the years, seen them born, seen them die. Part of being a pet owner is sadly when our pets leave this world. Tom Tom is up there now with my dad & my old cat Mitzi.

I must say picking him up off the pavement (sidewalk for US folks) wasn't that bad an experience for me, it was just the body of a cat, just his shell, Tom had gone about an hour ago.

Maybe later on this year I will supprise my partner with a kitten, or a pair. I love cats, and probably won't be without one for long.

Thank you all for commenting, it means a lot to me that you would take the time to reply.

I'm trying really hard to accept it as a part of life, but she's my best friend and I can't imagine not having her around. I never really got over her sister's death 6 years ago, it hurts deeply to lose such a wonderful companion.

Losing a pet is never easy. I've lost several myself. You have my condolences. :(
