I was up for my annual review Feb '10. I rated excellent in virtually every category. However, since I sometime get "THE RULES" either mixed up, or even forgotten, the pay raise I was expecting (& had received for the last 8 years) was forgone. I was counting on that pay raise to help offset my husband's increased medical expenses not covered by insurance.

I must admit I'm eternally grateful that I still have a job!

What is your opinion of my company's action?

I work 2 jobs, and both of them I am not getting raises this year. I always get an excellent review but right now everyone is short on money and they are trying to cut anywhere they can. I don't know if they explained that to you, but they should have. I would be more upset if they didn't let me know beforehand then not getting a raise.

It's really hard right now. I didn't get a raise, my benefit costs are going up so I will actually bring home less money, my part time job hours were cut, and my son's school tuition just shot up $250 a month for next year. ugh

Hang in there! You're not alone!

Alot of places are implimenting salary freezes, some are not something that is said but rather done in implimentation. I would not depend on raises in this day and age to offset expenses. I would try to budget things better. But the truth is they did not give you a raise because they were probably faced with budget cuts, and they are being very sneaky about it. Just be grateful you are in a job, 1 in 10 people do not have one, and in alot of states the unemployment rate is close to 12 %.

I wasn't told until AFTER the review that I wasn't getting a raise. Supposedly, only 2 people in my dept got raises this year.

I learned to budget to the penny many years ago.

The increase in our RX costs came out of the blue in January; our co-pays quadrupled!! ! Plus, my hours got cut last year, resulting in a 20% pay cut.

I know times are tough all over, but denying a pay raise I busted my butt to earn as a form of punishment (my boss told me it was punishment) I still think is wrong. I'd rather have a write-up in my file.

Oh, well.....as least they kept me on.

Our pay raises at my after school job are based on how many cumulative hours one has worked and does not depend on any way a boss can cheat one out of a raise for not being part of the clique. Our pay policy and such is dictated by the union.Union jobs or being self employed or having a job with more independance, is the type of jobs those on the spectrum need.

before any dicipline is dished out, it must be written out and a union steward must be present at the time and the person being disciplined has the right to counter the issue with the help of the union.

Tory_canuck is right. They can't "punish" you by taking away your raise without documentation and your right to appeal. This is true for jobs that are not union also. I would go to your HR department (if you have one) and have them make sure you were treated fairly. If you got a decent review, why would it be punishment? Your boss sounds like a jerk.

Co-Pays for medications are insane! I don't take meds that I should be taking myself because I can't afford them, and my husband and son need theirs more than I need mine. I don't know how senior citizens who take a plethera of pills a day can afford it.
