Hi,

I tend to develop interests in following politics particularly controversial ones that upset me emotionally A LOT. I work at a job where I have time to surf the internet, where I end up reading comment boards about these topics, and get myself all worked up about what people are posting, and then I just can't stop thinking about it.

I want suggestions for something else I could focus on --- something that I could do in small bite-sized pieces because my job has constant interruptions where I need to focus on work-related issues. I seem to be drawn to these things that just truly upset me, but I need to find something that will keep me calmer but satisfy my need to immerse myself in an activity--a safe obsession if you will.

Although I don't like admitting it, I can sometimes be drawn to read up on things that will only upset me. Do not ask me why, though. lol

Maybe you can try writing or drawing (about peaceful things  )? I can't draw at all, but sometimes writing can help me curb my obsessions that distract me.

I used to use a Rubik's cube or a tower of Babylon puzzle. Sometimes I would knit but I lost a lot of cred points for that. Doing anything with my hands was helpful.

Sudoku, crosswords... you can buy books of them for cheap.
