I'm really annoyed at myself; I had 2 bags and a pile of other stuff to carry, including the laptop, and I left it behind. It was new too 
I really hope nobody has walked off with it, and someone hands it in...
Does anyone know what the procedures are for something like this? I've already contacted the place where I lost it, but should I tell the police too?

. I left it on the bus, but I rang the station today and a driver had handed it in & I was able to get it back. Such a relief!

yes! I have a 'case number' from where my laptop was stolen from my front room. If you have the serial number it is even better. Also if you check Craig's List for the selling of it, you can set up a sting with the police!

That's actually not a bad idea. I was reading in the papers recently about a couple in Toronto who had their baby stroller stolen and found it on Craigslist. They posed as potential buyers and when it came time to pick the stroller up it was the police who arrived and arrested the theives.
All and all, I hope you get your laptop back. Maybe some generous person will turn it in to a police station or something.

Thanks, but Lene probably has more of a chance than I do, as it was last June when mine was stolen. But the Craig's List or even EBay is a good place to look!

That's a really good idea about writing down the serial number though; I'll definitely do that just in case it ever does get stolen,

yes, write down the serial number and put a really good password on it, too. be ready to whip it out along with copies of your credit and debit cards and licenses.
