Move out, that's what I'm going to do.

God Kizzykat, that sounds like an absolute nightmare..

I second KaiG: move out as soon as you can. It's the only way to get rid of the frustration and memories(out of sight, out of mind).

Until then, a couple of suggestions:

1. when your sob brother gets back home, swoop in and get all your clothes and belongings. Put them in a bin liner in the corridor if you have to. You can buy fabric collapsable wardrobes from some shops; they might be a good temporary solution.

2. or, get ahold of the key by hook or by crook and get it copied. I'm totally against key-copying in the vast majority of cases, but if you and your son are hanging around whilst Lord Fauntleroy dictates when you can get dressed, I think it's a pretty fair exception to the rule.

3. take back your playstation. Yes, technically you may have given it to him, but since he's acting like a jerk, so can you. Give it to someone you trust for safe keeping and tell him you sold it.

4. if you feel brave enough, walk with your son to your brother's school in your pajamas and ask for the key. Eitehr approach him directly or ask the principal to make an announcement.

5.Get mad. Get outraged. Demand your mum give you a set of keys or find somewhere else for your clothes. It's not right that her daughter or her grandchild have to sit around all day in their night clothes because the uncle gets to dictate when they get to put on clothes!

As for the difference in rules, from what I've hear, all younger siblings get it better (in the vast majority of situations). The resentment is natural, but there's not a lot you can do about it.

In part, it's due to external events (parents maybe getting a better job etc) but I think it's also due to the fact that as people, your own parents' views have changed as well.

The media has a lot to do with that I think; it used too be 'never let your child have a lock on their room' so all Good Parents didnt. Now it's 'give your child their privacy' so they follow that tune now.

Also, I think, parents get lazy/worn out as they get older. They literally stop caring as much about what the kids do and find it easier to just give in. With tabloid citations about why this is a Good Parenting Move of course.

Basically, it's pointless to waste your time resenting the inequality. If your brother had a younger sibling, he'd be complaining about the 'unfairness' too (mine does :P). You have every right to be bitter as hell, but it's not going to change anything so no point wasting your time.

But yeah, move at as soon as you can. This sounds like a total headache. I'm angry on your behalf!
