Someone has contacted me through PM and ask to be my friend, we exchanged two emails, and then this person want me to help them in real life. Basically, they want me to help them get out of the country they currently reside in and settle down in my country permanently with my help. While money is not an issue, there're apparently some legal difficulties and this person need someone they could trust to to be their trustee, in this case that would be me.

I have no idea on what to do next. This person is in trouble and in need of help, but should I be the one to help? I know nothing of legal business and my knowledge of this whole trustee thing is sketchy at best. Could this trustee business hurt me in any ways? And helping someone settle down is a big commitment. I'm just an 18 year old who's studying in a foreign country.

What does helping someone settle down mean? Did I need to find them accomodation and show them around? Obviously I can't do that myself with being an oversea student and all, and I can't exactly ask my parents to help this person either. Right?

I won't call this person a friend right now. We barely know each other and I have the suspicion that this person only contact with offer of friendship so I'll help them. Still, this person need help. Could I even help? Should I? What should I tell them?

P.S. I'm not sure that this is the right forum for my question. Did it belong here?

How far away does that person live? Are they in your town, or on the other side of the world?

Ok thats a 419 scammer, do not talk to these people they are crooks, they and be dangerous if you ever tried to meet up with them, someone have been PMing people all night doing that, the worst think you could ever do is reply to friendship offers from complete strangers

Read this 419 fraud, Nigerian scam, Nigerian bank scam, or Nigerian money offer

If the initial pm read something like this, then it's a scam (just got this one today. Wouldn't happen to be the same one as yours by any chance?)

Don't respond, not even to say that you know that they are lying. Just delete the message and report the username to the mods. Ignore any further ones

"Notice: Do not respond to members who ask you to email them at an external address. These types of messages are sent by scammers. " <-- you'll see this warning above the Wrongplanet inbox.

By the way, here's a few funny sites for 419 scammers: http://www.419eater.com/index.php ,

Thank you for letting me know that it's a scam. Now I can stop wasting time and energy, thinking of the correct way to tell someone you can't help them.

BTW, if I shouldn't received offers of friendship from complete strangers and any PM I sent to strangers will be seen as scam. Exactly, how do I go about making friends online? I'm not ready for real world interaction, and want to try having friends online. What do I have to do?

talk as much as you want to people. just be wary of anyone who is 'overseas' and running into some sort of difficulty, and do not give anyone any money
