I have a fear of going to the DMV again to take my written test.

I'm 19, I did Driver's ED when I was 16. I studied for it as best as I could and then June last year I took it the written test on the computer. First time I got half-way through and flunked it. The second time the same day I got to the last question and missed it, flunking it because I can only miss 5 questions and I had already missed 4 - I got the final one wrong. I made a big scene in the DMV and upset my mom, after both times I failed it. Then I took it the next day and was too cocky and didn't study as much and failed it only a few questions in.
It would take a long time to explain as to why failing my written driver's test was the straw that broke the camel's back last year, but in short, after the 3rd time I flunked it I threated to kill myself - and I was serious. I was sent to the mental hospital for a week. Of course, as experiences like that often do, it changed me and now a year later I have finished my first year at college and have great college friends.

The only thing is, I still can't drive and depend on other people for rides. My friends don't seem to mind but I KNOW it's a burden on them and I do realize that it's not a good thing to take rides from them, especially being broke college students.

I have a fear of going back to the DMV and still have a slight fear of failure.
I'm sick of people saying to me that it's "Not that hard" or that "You need to just do it" or "Just study and take it again"
It's never been that easy for me.

I think one thing I need to do is take it on paper instead of on the computer like the last 3 times, I know that will help.

What else should I do?

I'm new here and I hope this forum can really be a place where I can talk things out and learn about myself and others - and how to fight away the negative and accentuate the positive.

Is it possible to take the test using paper rather then a computer system? If so I would take the paper option, it allows u to answer the questions you know for sure first then leave the harder ones for last.

When people say that something isn't hard when you find it hard it tends to feel like they are basically telling you that you suck.
"You just need to do it, study and do it again" well thankyou captain obvious!.

What helps you calm down? your special interests? Lavender? breathing exercises? I would suggest doing this before u go again (as long as u don't go too far with the calmness and fall asleep).

Remember that you are able to try again, I have heard of someone that tried to get their licence something like 90 times before success.

Is it possible to take a practice exam? If so it might be worth a try.
