It is only my first week of College but I'm already stressing! I get SUPER FOCUSED (thank you Aspieness) and VERY obsessive! My parents HATE this obsessive behavior. I've been posting on the class Discussion board but I'm not doing it right so once again after posting last night and seeing a negative response (That wasn't right or whatever). I fealt discouraged and family is like OMG you are depressed. They feel OMG this isn't due till Oct. (another project Nov. and end of Nov.) Why are you worrying about it now OMG! I get REALLY REALLY focused. Me being discouraged over another bad comment ) (not bad but once again my post wasn't what the teacher wanted and I've made I beleive 6 messages to the Class board) So I fealt bad. :-( My parents say I can have my laptop back if I don't do school work the rest of the weekend. I'M GOING INSANE!! ! I have Math HW due Wed.! and IDEAS! For my health class!! !! We're learning of the heart so I was thinking writing on Broken Heart Syndrome which simulates a fake heart attack and Type A personality/perfectionism (Which I feel I have to a certain level) :-( Does this make since to anyone? Thanks.

Obsessiveness is normal for us aspies! Be PROOOOUD. Don't feel bad.

People will not understand how we feel or think. Thet'll even think we're weird and annoying. Don't let that stop you. Maybe you could get your parents to give you your laptop back if you asked and explained this to them?

They don't understand my obsessiveness and like I said feel the OMG it's not due till Oct. (another project Nov. and end of Nov.) So I need to not stress over it. :-( I know I shouldn't feel bad but after yet ANOTHER remark (not bad just a that's not what I'm looking for comment) made me feel bad. The teacher IS nice in her e-mails and encouraging (With "You can do it" It's not hard etc.) So atleast she's nice. :-) I hope I atleast pass this course with a C. (C is passing at this college.) I'm not a grade perfectionist IMO give me a C (passing grade) and let me get started on the next class. but I DO feel bad if my work isn't up to the teachers standards. :-(

I think it is related to executive function. You want to finish your work as soon as possible and can´t delay it. But you have to delay the impulse to starting working on your project. Planning abilities are also difficult. I would advise you to make a plan of the days you will be working on the project. Select which days of the week you will dedicate to the project and how much time. Make a schedule that also allows studying for other subjects. If there is time remaining and you are not tired you can work more on the project. I also think that it is important to monitor how much time is spent on each activity so that you can plan everything better. I also think it is important choose which activity is more important and prioritize things.

Well, that is what my psychologist used to say. I don´t know if it will work well with you it is only an advice. :)

My parents WISH I was like you lol. I'm the opposite - I procrastinate to the last day to finish my assignments, and it has resulted in many stressful nights.

IMO your parents are in the wrong. Your special interest is obviously very constructive and they should just leave it alone.

My mum tried to take a special interest away from me, 12 years ago. I was crying, that night. My mum let me have my own way, after a month.

If you are expecting a C grade in a class you obsessively study and prep for months in advance, it seems you to need to study smarter not harder. Go seek help about better study techniques. Most schools offer this service for free to students. Try different styles and see what works for you. Maybe your parents are right and you need to step back a little and prioritize because it seems like you are a little all over the place.

Don't obsess over comments in a message board, it's not really that serious. I had a therapist who when I would tell her something I thought was "life-ending", she would say "big damn deal". So what? You got a few comments wrong. Big Damn Deal.
