Who needs saving? I know I do.
Technically, I could fix my life. Only, I can't. Horrible things going on in my head that I can't get out, I can't tear myself away from distractions because as long as I'm reading, clicking around on the internet, playing Dragon Age, or anything like that, I'm at peace a little bit. I need peace, I take it whenever and however I can.
I kind of wish that someone would literally drag me out and force me to make the change, because wanting to change doesn't seem to make actually changing any easier.
I'm not asking for any particular kind of response, but if anyone has managed to pull themselves out of a state of mind that is depressed, hopeless, bitter, angry and useless or something like that, I'd appreciate it if they shared their stories so that I might learn from them, or at least feel a little that might have a shot too.
For a few years up until just a few months ago I constantly felt completely hopeless, angry, depressed, filled with self loathing and pity, and suicidal thoughts.
I've now gotten out of it, though my life situation isn't much better, only my way of looking at it. I'm not exactly sure what it was that helped me, but these are the things that I think helped the most:
I asked my neighbor if they knew anything about depression, and turns out they knew quite a lot. They (thankfully) didn't shower me in pity or anything, but basically told me to make something of myself, and to get out more (in a pleasant and caring way though). I didn't necessarily do all of what they suggested, but just the fact that someone expected something from me I think helped me a lot.
I think school helped too. I kind of hated high school, but college is different. There has been a much greater sense of reward for doing well in college, which helps make the feelings of being useless go away.
I also began exercising. It could just be that the weather is nicer in spring and it's easier to go running/biking, but regardless it seems to be helping a lot.
I don't know if/how much this will help, but there are ways to escape that kind of misery. What I did might not work for you but there are ways to stop those feelings.
Not easy if possible to pull yourself out. But you can get out.
Years ago, everything totally wrong, certifiable and down to skin and bones.
Three months and I made it to sane but shook up.
Six months and things changed.
Not predictable, noy so far I can see in control.
advice? Minimize pressure on yourself. Avoid stressor situations whenever you can? Don't buy into blame - of yourself or others. Keep reminding yourself, this can and will end.
When? I only have the rest of my life to figure out how to get people to like me, much less me to like me.
I don't really know what my mood was yesterday - probably wistful and weepy from the sounds of my post here - but right now I'm just plain bitter and scared and PISSED. Ugh, I need to lose weight or guys don't give a s**t about me. I don't particularly give a s**t either, but it makes situations VERY awkward when all they want to do is talk to the cute, petite, shy girl even who giggles at every single thing that is said, and I'm just sitting next to her, only about half included in the conversation. Even though I'm the one who started said conversation, or is usually the first one to respond to the conversation starter. What fun, this thing we call "being friendly and social." [/rant]
Well.. I definitely am sure there are people who deserve saving. I myself always wanted someone to save me from depressing situations. Social rejection is horrible, it was enough to cause me to drop out my senior year of HS and force me to get homeschooled. (There were other factors)
That said, you have to try to be the strong person you can depend on! There are people in this world who can empathize, but you're the only one with the full understanding of how you feel and what you go through. You have to be your own rescuer.
Not easy, but its something you can work on gradually. If you hate the way you feel about yourself, exercise daily (it helps with depression in general). Try working on the things you have power over, if a person ignores you in favor of someone else don't waste your time on them. Why? Its their loss and yours for staying to seek attention.

Dont ever wish for this. My family has used this approach with me everyday of my life and it's the worst kind of hell you can endure. Besides no one should have to force you to change. You're the only one who can do it but I strongly recommend you don't push yourself too hard. It will hurt more if you do so.

I know...I'd be pissed if someone was messing with my life like that. I'm also pissed that I can't take care of myself. I'm pushing, but like a rubber band it's like I get snapped back in the face. One step forward, two shoves back. Oh well. Obviously I can't act on any of the kind advice here as I really can't do anything on my own (thus the wish for some supernatural power to intervene). Ten years later I'll still be here posting the same s**t, yay. But thanks everyone...all I did was vent, but I needed to vent anyway.
