I've always felt guilty about the fact that my parents were blamed for everything I did wrong as a kid. If I had a melt-down, or was hyper or difficult or anything, it was always a result of 'poor parenting' on their behalf. It's depressing, and I shouldn't have to feel guilty when I haven't done anything wrong, but I can't help it.

No reason to feel guilty. It wasn't anyones fault.

You shouldn't have to feel guilty, at all. Those people were all ignorant jerks, and they were the ones who needed the spankings.

I once told my father nobody could have done a better job raising me, and I said that simply because we were each whatever we were at that time ... and that is just how things were. My parents were occasionally disappointed either by something I had done (or had not done), or even over how I "turned out", so to speak. However, those kinds of things were not because of any ill intent on my part, and so that leaves me guilty of nothing other than some occasional and outright disobedience.

People judge people in all kinds of ways and for all kinds of reasons, but children are not to blame for anything related to their parents.

Nevertheless, your parents were blamed when they probably shouldn't have been.

I think the jury is still out on how much parents play a role in the behavior of their children. But you were prone to melt-downs and hyperactivity, which certainly was not the fault of your parents.

I don't think you are trying to say that your parents always did everything right? But because they were always being blamed, they may not have learned better how to deal with you in specific situations.

I think it's fair to say that it really wasn't their fault nor was it your fault. You both did your best based on what you knew at the time. Now that you better understand yourself and your neurological condition, hopefully you can deal with these situations better in the future.
