Im 18 years old and a senior in high school, I was bullied all through middle school but I have taught myself social skills. everything is going well except for one aspect of my life. At the beginning of my freshman year I promised myself that I would have a girlfriend by the end of the year. Four years later Im still no closer. Every one of the dozen or so crushes I've had have gone the same way. first I become friends with the girl, then I put off telling her how I feel because I don't want to risk my friendship with her, then as soon as I find the courage to ask her out I look on facebook and it says that she is in a relationship. Over the years this has slowly eroded my confidence, and it didn't help when some random girl who I've never met before came up to me when I was working on a project and called me a loser. Over the last semester of school I have felt more and more like my self esteem is based on whether or not I can get a girlfriend, which I can't seem to do. So please tell me what Im doing wrong or how to stop feeling like a loser for never having a girlfriend before. Im tierd of this stupid cycle

For what it's worth, I didn't have a 'steady' boyfriend until I was about your age; some of us just don't date much while in high school. If at all possible, try not to base your self-worth on getting a girlfriend because there are so many factors beyond your control when it comes to dating and many people have to go through a lot of trial-and-error in order to find someone they 'click' with, not just people with Asperger's.

You mentioned that you are working on your social skills and that other areas of your life are going well for you. It sounds like you are doing your best to lay the sort of groundwork in your life that's needed in order to be in a relationship and you may just need to be patient and positive for a while until you meet the right person. I do realize that can be a lot harder than it sounds, though.

Its not that I haven't met the right person yet, I felt like one of my crushes in particlular was almost like a soulmate. the problem is that I never seem to have the confidence to ask a girl out. by the way, thank you blueroses. this is the first time that I've been able to get any decent relationship advise.

I am not the best person to be giving out relationship advice, but you are very welcome and I wish you the best of luck.
