Since high school, I've been unable to get my driver's license. I took driver's ed just like everyone else, but was forced to go take driving lessons from some disabled driving school, and they claimed my driving was "inconsistent" or some BS. I had been told that after I turned 18, I wouldn't have to go through that crap again. But I tried to go take the written test to get my learner's permit at the DMV and The Man said that I had to go through the same hoops I had to go through before! I'm 24; there is no legitimate reason why I should have to go through this! I can handle a vehicle well if they'd just let me!

Anyone else ever have to go through this crap when getting their L's?

If I were you, the first thing I would do is try going to another DMV office. Did they give you some sort of questionnaire asking about the old driving school?

No. They just told me to go back to them or find another driving school.

I even sent this driving school a letter asking for my records. If need be, I'll even find a lawyer and pursue legal action. My life has been wrongfully stunted because of all this crap!

This. When I got my license, I went to the DMV in the smallest town that had an office, a place where they give CDLs to half-blind cowhands. This is a double-bonus: not only are they seemingly more understanding of odd folks in small places, but there is also less traffic and confusing cityscape to worry about in a small town. If at all possible, try a different city.

But this is Delaware we're talking about. There's only three DMV offices--one for each county. It's still the same DMV no matter where you go in what state you're in.

I'm not sure if you can do this but, have you tried going to another state and getting a licence there? Keep searching for one that will take your time for you to learn how to drive with safety and will issue your licence. In someways, you're luckier than me that they care about the way you drive...

I already know how to drive if I have to. I just need to get legal.

If need be, I may take legal action. Not only would I demand to be allowed through like everyone else, but I'd also demand reparations to cover years of emotional damages.

I doubt you'll get a penny from them. You'd just be wasting legal fees. I had to take lessons over again, and I got my license at the same age as you. It'll be fine.
