I live with my mother.

The trash and recycling needs to be taken out every Thursday. I prefer to do this late at night at around 9:30 or 10:00. It always gets done. She insists it is done before 8:00. She doesn't really give a reason. She just says she doesn't want it done late at night. She says she doesn't like me procrastinating.

We got in an argument over this tonight.

Who is in the wrong?

you left a important piece of info out. when does the truck show up?

I don't really care... if the trash is out before the truck arrives for pickup then your mom is wrong. You are not a puppet and if what she asks you for gets done she should be quiet.

Good luck with all your future arguments.

Friday morning.

I'm going to take that as 06:00. That gives you 8h/8h30min.
If 08:00 then 10h/10h30min.
(I bet you know how to count)

Tell her that the trash will be taken out at the time that fits you. Unless she squeezes out that reason, and it better be damn important. If there is no reason and she's just telling you to make it happen at 20:00 then your a puppet on strings, since what she asks you to do is being done your way but she insists on getting you to do it at a time that is not fitting for you. Not cool.

And that is why I hate people.

Since the trash men don't come till Friday morning, I don't see why it would matter what time you take it out just as long as it is done before the garbage men come.

You can tell her "Then why don't you take it out?" when she wants it done at a certain time. I don't see how it's reasonable to take it out before eight. Is it noisy taking it out at night so she wants it done sooner? Is there any reason why it's easier for you to do it late?

If I tell her to take it out, she does it but becomes angry and agitated the next day. It is not worth it.

Noise is not an issue.

As for doing it late, it really is just a preference more than being more convenient.

Maybe she is afraid of letting you out when it's dark.

Is it really that hard to save your mother a couple of gray hairs and just do it by eight o'clock? Kids these days, I swear.

You are living in your mother's house? Yes? In that case, I think you should do as she asks.

When you have your own place you can do what you want.

It's amazing the arguments people get into over silly things that don't matter.

Ugh, sometimes I feel like I'm 60.

All I see is "My Mom wants me to do something and has set a guideline, I don't wanna".

I understand why you think in this way but in a healthy household people don't use that saying. Basically parents give birth to children then shape them after their own image even tho the child/teenager fulfills his/her duties, but just not when the "Dungeon Keeper" instructed.

You must be a very obedient son.

How is it a problem?! Oh she wants him to take it out 2 hours earlier - why cause a fuss over such a trivial issue?
Shows a high lack of respect for his mother. I've always been greatful for every roof someone has put over my head - it's not an unreasonable request.

But still, if the OP needs to complain over such a tiny issue - it's their extra hassle.
