Skipping meals :(
I realized that I only had a granola bar today...and that was 8 hours ago. Dinner isn't for another 2 hours. Oh well. I can afford to skip meals every now and again. And by that I mean I skip lunch almost every day when I'm at school. I'm usually too busy with my internship and schoolwork that I forget to eat. And when I realize it, I don't feel any motivation to do anything about it. I'm about 70 pounds overweight (I was 100 pounds overweight last summer) so I guess I feel like I deserve it for letting myself get so big. Is this normal? >.<

It's the rare day that I eat at all.
Having said that, I'mma pull the classic parent "Do as I say, not as I do" line and tell you you shouldn't skip meals.
You look really gorgeous in that photo, btw. ![]()

You shouldn't skip any meals because what that does is it forces your body to go into starvation mode and any food you put into your body turns straight into fat, so all you accomplish is gaining even more weight. Try and it at least 5 to 6 small meals a deal if you can, and don;t wait to eat one big meal at supper time because that will wreak your metoblism also.
To lose weight you will need to keep your metabolism 'ticking over' which means eating regularly, ideally at the same time every day. For instance many people especially athletes eat 6 small meals a day in order to do this.
Skipping meals is counter productive, I'm no expert but I believe it will make your body store fat rather than burn it (something like that - do some research, I'd only confuse you with my ignorance of the subject
).
Personally I'd feel incredibly hungry, you don't?

Not necessarily.

This is essentially correct. When the body is deprived of food it "thinks" it is starving and tends to conserve energy, that is, store it as fat rather than use it. It's the basic mechanism behind "yo yo" dieting...the minute you start eating normally again, the body which is used to subsisting on few calories sees what it detects as a "surplus" and begins to store it as fat. Exercise also tends to boost metabolic rate. Skipping meals is not a good way to lose weight, at least not long-term. Short term it may work through simple subtraction (energy in - energy out) but that assumes you'll never revert to a normal caloric intake.
OP, you don't "deserve" any such thing. You deserve to treat yourself well, with respect to food and other things. (man, do I feel like a hypocrite for typing that). That is a nice picture, BTW.

I used to eat whenever I felt like it. Which meant if I was out and about and felt hungry, I'd stop at McD's. I eventually got up to 325 lbs (5'8" white male). I finally decided, for the sake of my health and wallet, that I had to plan meals better. I actually sold my car so as to get accustomed to cooking something when I felt hungry (I hate cooking) instead of running out to Burger King. It took me a few months to adjust. Now I've lost 8 inches (out of 24 I need to lose).
Tip: measure your progress in inches, not pounds. I've been so fat for so long that I have horrible water retention. I'm still 300 lbs. But I've gone down from a 62 inch waist to 54-55 inches. My goal is 36-38. I would think that a female would have it even worse, since they tend to gain weight around the hips. Starving yourself and saying "well, I need to lose weight anyway" is a dangerous game, and you've got a plateful of them. Drinking excessively, not eating, hating yourself, etc. You're gonna end up with serious health issues later on, if you don't turn your life around.
By the way, you look hot in that photo. I want you.
A lot of people forget to eat when busy. So long as it's only the occasional meal, no harm done. Just make sure you're able to concentrate and do your job correctly without food!
I wouldn't advise using it as a way to lose weight though; you'll just end up hungry later on and make up for the skipped meals
When I'm at school, we don't have a meal plan that accomodates the many small meals necessary. We get three meals a day and that's it, unless you bought extra food, which I don't have the money for.
CoalBogey - Usually I don't feel hungry until I start thinking about when the last time I ate was. Then my friends start telling me that I should eat but I don't feel the motivation to. >.<
Pezar - I've lost a lot of inches over the past 8 months but I know I need to lose at least 4-8 more to get where I should be. I gain weight around my stomach more than my hips so it looks even worse. I don't drink that excessively now, as I don't have the money to do so.
Lene - Not necessarily. When I'm forced to eat, like I was today, I only ate half the amount that my friends did. I wasn't anywhere near full but my stomach stopped hurting so that's what I needed.
Thanks for the compliments about the photo. My friend was doing a photoshoot and that was my favorite shot out of them (as you can't see anything below my boobs).
Skipping meals isn't good, I can't talk, I do it all the time, but the reason i'm overweight is because when I do eat it's not steamed brocolli, its something unhealthy.
I don't know what to say that would help, you've heard the "don't skip meals before" Just try and get in some greens to keep you healthy.

I would...if the university knew how to cook vegetables properly. I'll be eating better once I graduate next week. That's probably half the reason I've been skipping meals, the food here is terrible. I've been eating it for 4 years and I've had enough of it. Why does everything have to be fried and greasy? It's unnecessary. D:

Op... you remind me of my oldest daughter in this post. I am a notorious meal skipper (as is my mother), so my daughter in part comes by it naturally... but she will also say things about her weight and how it will not hurt her any if she does miss a meal. Both you and her worry me though as she has a busy lifestyle and you seem to as well with your school and internship and such. Lack of calories can really wear a person down both physically and mentally and it is so important to eat when you are young and active.
I will tell you what I told her... granola bars and trail mix are the bomb. They are relatively inexpensive if you get them from a grocery store and they are easy and portable. I think the local 'off brand' type store we have around here sells a box of them for two dollars or less. She has a cell phone and can program it to go off during times that do not conflict with her classes (in her case while she is going from class to class in high school or before her soccer practices) to remind her that it is time to shove a granola bar in her mouth. Perhaps you could try that? It is not a meal, but it is better than nothing... it helps keep energy up and and it is not all greasy and nasty.

But I still have to use my "meals" on campus by the end of the year or I'll lose that money. I don't want to lose money. Also, I rarely go to the grocery store as I have no car to get there. My roommate goes to the grocery store without me now, even though she used to take me. Now she'll go and bring back a crap ton of food and god forbid I look at any of it. I'm getting so sick of granola bars, oatmeal and the greasy food on campus. So I can't win since I can't cook my own food. >.<
Besides, I've eaten too much in the past so frankly, I deserve it. Why can't weight loss be simple as just eating less? I would starve myself for 2 months and then that would be the end of it. I would be beautiful and worthy of food again.
I wish I could donate all my "meals" to starving kids in other countries. They need food so much more than I do. Frankly, that's what our school should do with all the extra meals at the end of the year but instead they pocket it like the greedy bastards they are.

I understand being sick of oatmeal and granola bars. I really do. I am not a wealthy person myself and there was one summer in particular where my spouse was (without warning) unemployed for a summer. I ate nothing but oatmeal for about two months. That was years ago and I still shudder over oatmeal sometimes... meh... You just get so damn sick of the same food after awhile it is like starvation is better than choking that s**t down.
I do not know what else to suggest for you. I wish I had better ideas but since I struggle to eat regular meals, I am probably not the best for giving helpful advice on this. I tried though
sorry it was not helpful food advice.
As for weight loss... yeah, it is not so easy. I recall after my second daughter was born, I was a pudge pudge. Heh. It did not help me any that all I wanted when I was pregnant was hot fudge sundaes and butterfinger candy bars. My pudge was my own fault though that time. This time my pudge can be blamed on meds I was on. A few months ago I was put on some tricyclic for OCD and gained at least twenty pounds in maybe six weeks? I do not recall... anyhow I would not have cared but it all landed right on my stomach (I also would not have cared if the pills helped.. I'll take pudgy over crazy any day. Heh). I have taken to calling my new pudge 'my pill baby'. I have lost some of it, but I still look a few months pregnant. Especially ridiculous on me as I am otherwise a thin person. My pill baby is really noticeable. I have named it Anna Franil. But I am going off on a tangent now...
Weight has nothing to do with beauty. I have been all over the place with weight due to baby pudge and a metabolism that can make it damn near impossible to put on even five pounds. I have been as high as 200lbs and as low as 97lbs... both as an adult. Both extremes have their ups and downs, goods and bads. For every person out there who thinks thin people are attractive, there are people who will come along and say no no, you are not curvy enough, your boobs are too small, butt not round enough, hips to bony, you look like a twelve year old boy... I have heard it all. For every person who thinks curvy women are attractive, there will be one who will come along and say no no, you are too curvy, your boobs are too big, butt is too round, hips too far out there, you look fat... I have heard it all.
Beauty is subjective and varies from person to person. No matter how a person looks, someone will not like it and someone else will like it. In the end their thoughts are meaningless. What counts is how you feel about how you look. You seem to have problems with that and I do not understand why. For what it is worth, if that is you in your picture, you have a beautiful face. I am not sure why you think you are not beautiful. People rarely see themselves the way others do though, do we...

But no one finds fat attractive. I'm not curvy, just fat. Hell, I have D cups that can't even make cleavage so even my boobs are defective.
That picture is me. I rarely look like that. And I like that picture because you can't see anything below my boobs. I look okay from boobs up and horrible the rest of the way down.
I've been fat since puberty and I've had enough. I just want to be pretty. That's all. I want to be thinner dammit. Women aren't supposed to be fat. We're supposed to be beautiful. But sadly, I'm not pretty enough to find someone who will treat me well. I've just been used my entire life and that will continue until I'm pretty enough to be worth something. ![]()
