President Andrew Jackson could misspell the same word 3 times on one page. Plus I saw somewhere that one Asperger trait could be such misspelling. If someone actually called you out on that they probably should read a psychology textbook. There were some other posts I have seen where there needs to be a fact check as well.

Besides, any fluent speaker should know what you are talking about anyway since you seem to spell phonetically. You should just post and not worry about it too much if people are ignorant enough not to understand you.

Well, regardless of that, people are still ignorant if they call you out for the spelling.

Attacking spelling is usually a pretty weak attack. I don't know what browser you use but I think Firefox and Chrome both have built in spell checkers if you are that concerned about being unfairly ridiculed

I think I know what this is about. Someone told you in the police thread that he/she can't read a wall of text with text speak.

It was ignorant on his/her part but I don't think he or she was making fun of you. Just saying how hard it is to read it so I revised it for him/her to make it easier to read. I hope you didn't mind. I did it to help the person out and maybe you will get more responses to your thread. I do wish I can go around revising peoples posts when they're poorly written so everyone can have an easier time reading them but I am afraid how the OP would take it. I would see it as helping them out but I am afraid they might see that as me bullying them which I'm not.

And asking if you are dyslexic, I see that as a sign that they aren't so ignorant and they don't view someone as unintelligent when they write poorly because they consider that person could have a learning disability so they struggle with spelling. I often wonder myself if the person is or not.

Pretty much it underlines incorrect words with a red squiggly line- you can then right-click on the word to see suggestions for what is correct. This does require you know the context of the word, but it is helpful I think- it is always worth learning. The browser spell-check doesn't make sentence restructuring suggestions so I don't think you have to worry about it messing you up too badly- I always hated MS Word for that.

I agree. The spell check functions will simply assist making it more readable to others. I have seen your posts a few times, and they really slow me down, because I have to sound them out, and process them with the speech portions of my brain, instead of how I normally process written things. Though, I noticed the non-standard spelling in another thread, I ignored that portion, and focused on the real issue of that - logic flaws in an argument.

If you right click and check the spelling and grammar suggestions, there is an option where it will automatically change it to the word it thinks it should be. No work or word knowledge required.

Spell check is difficult for people with learning disabilities to use because words look the same to them. They don't know which spelling is the correct one. Have you ever misspelled a word and lot of alternate spellings popped up for the correct one? Have you ever tried typing in a word and the program could not recognize the word so no spelling suggestions popped up?

Spell check was made for people who have no problems with spelling and it's to correct typos so they wouldn't have to proofread. It just saves them the time.

Misspelling of words doesn't really bother me - as long as the spelling is reasonably phonetic, I can usually decipher what people are saying.

I have more of a problem with a 'wall of words." I am a fan of using paragraph breaks and using short paragraphs all-together. It just makes it easier to read.

Also, I tend not to use too much 'text speak' when I am writing. I use it more like I would a spice or seasoning. I little OMG or LOL, but I wouldn't write a whole sentence in text speak. Then again, I was an office secretary for a couple of years and tend to 1) type fast; and 2) type in complete sentences because "text speak" wasn't invented in the early 1990's and would not have been appropriate to a professional office.

Regardless - I tend not to call people on their spelling or grammar. I am more interested in what people are feeling and thinking. Also some people are dyslexic, English Second Language or may have limited education in language arts - this doesn't mean that they are not otherwise very intelligent and/or that their thoughts and feelings are less important than someone who has perfect spelling and grammar.

That rather depends on the degree of errors. And what if it's in txtspk?

We need to be able to communicate with the people who are talking to us.

Oftentimes the word it automatically picks is not the correct one. If I am having trouble telling which word is the right one I will copy it, put it into word and look up synonyms for it. If the synonyms don't match the meaning of the word I am looking for I know I have made a mistake.

I like this. :D I've always had horrible spelling (and make up for it by running absolutely everything through spellcheck), but all the stuff I've read, if it mentions it at all, says that Aspies typically have good spelling because it is a memorization activity.

We all have different strong and weak points, and if yours happens to be one that is openly visible to everyone because it's the means by which you have to communicate on here, then that's a tough call.

I suggest that you might consider putting something about it in your signature. "Please don't attack me for my writing - it's not my fault - I'm not being a lazy speller - I can't help it." Something like that. :)

It's worth pointing out, though, that textspeak and spelling mistakes are two completely different things. I don't see any textspeak in this particular post of yours, though I haven't read the other one that's being referred to, so I can't really comment.

Also, there is just one thing that you could remember that would make your writing easier on the eye: the word "I" is a pronoun, and it requires capitalisation. I am not saying that to be arrogant or mean or sound superior, so I sinccerely hope that is not the way it comes across. (<-----Edit: look, I just noticed a little typo of my own!) I am just giving you a simple tip that would be very easy to apply and make people less likely to point these things out. I think if you were to make an effort to change just that one thing, and also add something about your problem in your signature, it would make a difference. :)
