Crossing streets/parking lots/driveways
My parents and myself are really concerned I might get run over. I'm often not aware of my surroundings when I cross (as a pedestrian) streets, parking lots, and driveways.
Usually I'm just not focused - spacing out, or I'm focused on the wrong thing, like my excitement over the books I'm getting or where the car is.
My parents say I've had a lot of close calls (but I'm so out of it I often don't realize they happen).
I've searched the forum, but can only find "yeah I get that too's", not ways to deal with it. I've tried searching the net, but all I can find are tips to teach kids procedure or just listing it as an autism problem area. This doesn't work, because I'm almost 17 and this has been a problem since I was a kid. I know I'm supposed to look both ways etc. so it's not learning procedure or a lack of practice. I just don't remember/ can't focus.
Does anyone know ways I can remind myself to check/improve my safety/tips to solve my problem? Thanks for your help.

Why don't you get a service dog that will stop at curbs?
