I really had a great opportunity to be happy in life.

Without going into details, I graduated from college with a huge opportunity to be happy, and I blew it. It was as simple as a layup. I could argue that I blew it twice.

It really had to do with AS and my perception of the world due to other disorders.

Does anyone else feel that way?

Yes many times, most notable me failing educations and love life. But then i learned that you get a new chance every second of every minute in which you can make a decision to be happy. You just have to make that choice, and then keep making it over and over. Its never going to be a one time deal y/n and youll be stuck with either one for the rest of your life. IT DOESNT WORK LIKE THAT. everyday you have to take on the fight of making the right decisions. If you want to be miserable keep telling yourself you blew your only chance to be happy many years ago. Good luck with that.

EDit: im terribly sorry for doing this again, i just click on titles on the main page and dont check from which sub topic it is. So i assume its a general discussion thread without knowing its from the haven.

Only twice?? I've graduated from two colleges and have already screwed up about 4-6 times. Even more if you wanna count having giving up finding a job for almost a year now.

i'm constantly blowing it... didn't graduate high school, had 20 jobs in 22 years, eventually had to give up a good profession because i couldn't handle it. but it really is possible to learn from the experience and improve for the next chance. there are always other opportunities waiting.

Yeah, I've blown it a few times... career choices, leaving good jobs, moving, picking the wrong men, leaving school early, etc. I could've made better choices. I try not to regret because every bad choice forged my path to the good things that also happened to me. It's difficult to discern at this point. I have a student loan in default, which sucks because now I can't return to school until I satisfy the collector in charge of it, so I blew that and should not have.

I'm scared that I might end up blowing it due to sheer irresponsibility.

Dropped out of college due to social anxiety, now struggling to find the motivation to take classes and or find a job, simply so I don't feel like a waste of space.

I enjoy and love failure as it gives me feedback, as failure breeds success!

1. Can't be true.
2. Doesn't matter - focus on the future.
3. Could your expectations be too high so that you get things right, but just not as much as you like?

Everyone (NT and Aspies) feels that way sometimes. I missed out on opportunities many times. But keep trying. Even though I have lost out with people and things, I still have made a few accomplishments with people and things. Try looking at the positive. The more you look, the more you will see.

It's ironic when people use Abraham Lincoln as an example of success after failure. He won the presidency by giving fake campaign promises. He was anti-slavery. Everyone knew it. But he campaigned on the promise to leave slavery alone in the South. Then, he broke that promise when the South started secession. Abraham Lincoln succeeded after failure by doing exactly what every politician does. So, is that really the lesson? If you want to succeed, just do what everyone else does, no matter how wrong and dishonest it is?

This is my personal saying:

"I am smarter yet less effective than anyone else I know."

That is why I have given up trying to succeed at work and gone on disability. At a job I am always a dismal failure no matter how hard I try or what sort of pain I put myself through. I don't want to be a failure. That is not healthy for my heart and mind. Now, I can do what I am best at: academics. I don't need to go to college. I am smart enough that I can get books on any subject and study by myself. I don't need NT's to grade me or judge me. I don't grade and judge THEM. I go for walks in the forest with my dog, and the dog never minds how many times I trip or how clumsy I am or how often I need to stop and rest.

I refuse to judge myself by NT standards or allow them to judge me any longer. I am not one of THEM and shouldn't have to try to be. I have put my foot down and refuse to be one of them, and no one can stop me.

Also, I refuse to judge any of you. If you could come to my house you could do anything you wanted, and no one would say a word. You could hide in my closet and refuse to come out; you could have a huge meltdown; you could flap your arms and crow like a rooster; you could say anything inappropriate and no one would mind. I believe you are all huge successes who are trapped in settings that are not appropriate for your fabulous talents.
