I have a college degree and a computer technician's certification, but I can't get a job. My high school girlfriend was bragging on Classmates about her perfect husband and perfect job, and it pains me to know that even though she's learning and speech disabled she's still NT and thus has advantages I will never have.

I had to sell my car because the cost of fixing it was too much to bear, then instead of saving for another car I went and blew that $1300, now I'm starting all over trying to save a couple hundred a month from my SSI check so I can get a car. I need a car because if I want to start a business as a mobile computer technician I will need one.

Speaking of girlfriends, I haven't gone out on a date since 1999. I took a break from the dating scene cause I had issues I needed to work on, now I'm too fat and too old and no woman will look at me. As I said, I have no hope of landing a job, and I have no car, and I can't afford books, so I sit at home and surf the net and mostly stay in bed all day and sleep for 12 hours every night until my body can't take it anymore. Then I stay up for 40 hours to reset my body clock.

I'm 36 and I had no opportunities, I graduated both college and trade school at a time of declining employment. I have a student loan, and while it's not in default it will be paid off in about 10 years. I have a loan that my mom took out to help me with a website that launched during the financial crisis and flopped, and which I couldn't get rid of in bankruptcy because it's in her name, and that will be paid off in 4 years. Together these two loans eat up half my check. I spend too much on food, too, but I'm working on that. At least I live with my parents, and they don't charge me rent, but I'm 36 and living with my parents! I'm on heavy antipsychotics so I won't kill myself.

I am sure you are not the above. Find a support
group, or go to local happy hours....take a class at a local college...so many opportunities!

I believe you will make it. Whenever I can't control my circumstances, I find myself inventing a goal to work towards.

Last time I found myself living with friends, with no income, no car, no nothing, I decided I would run a marathon. At the beginning I was too weak and out of shape to run at all, so I started walking as fast as possible. After a few weeks I felt like I could run a bit, so I alternated mostly walking with a clumsy sort of slow jog. Then it turned into half-running, half walking fast. After several months I could run the entire course, although slowly. I had also lost 50 pounds and felt great!! !

If you have trouble blowing sums of money that you have saved (I have this problem too), would your mother or father agree to hold onto the money for you so you couldn't spend it? You could give them a straight lump sum the day you got your SSI so it would "force" you to save.

As for being old and fat, I find it a little funny you say that because I am only attracted to older men who are stocky or fat. My previous S/O was 60 yrs old and 600+ pounds, and my current S/O is 55 and 425 lbs. I am pretty sure I would find you attractive!

If it helps any, I am 33 and living with parents. I know what you mean, it sort of does rob you of self esteem. But perhaps you can improve your circumstances.

my parents were saying the other day that the recession is really biting people our age, and younger. So you are not alone with the not being employed.

I weigh 301lb - how does your husband manage to have sex at a weight like that? I would imagine it would get a bit disabling past the 365lb mark.

My mom doesn't trust my dad with money, and for good reason-he spends when he's manic. So she entrusted me to the ATM card. We did try placing the money in a separate account, but as I said I had the ATM card, and blew it. She can't keep the card because my dad will take it and spend it. I can try putting the card in an inaccessible place, I've heard people putting their cards in fridges or stuff like that so they won't spend.

I am 36 and 300 lbs, down from 325. Diabetes runs in my family so it's really important that I lose weight. (I am 5'7".) My blood pressure is sky high without meds to tame it.

I have a goal-becoming a self-employed computer repairman, and moving to Oregon. But first I have to pay off my debts.

Mate

Get a grip!
1) The economy is tough so there is no shame in being out of work.
2) Get off your arse and walk/run three miles a day.
3) Shave, shower, shampoo everyday.
4) Get a job doing anything driving a taxi, call centre, deliver pizzas, flip burgers, bar work it will get you out of the house.
5) See about doing volunteer work.
6) Try to get out of a "victim" mindset things will improve if you let them.

Good luck!

To answer the question of how obese people can have sex:

We are sadomasochists. Our sex life does not revolve around putting-penis-in-vagina so my partner's weight does not matter.

Sorry if this comment belongs in the Adult forum but the question was asked here; I won't go into any details here.

Well I'm almost 35 and in my parents place again. I was truck driving for a few years and I quit my last job. They ran me really hard and I was having to many Monster Energy drinks while trying to fight the hypnotic effect of so much highway driving.

So I took a class in MIG welding trying to find another career path and all that work seems to have dried up around here.

I keep looking for job leads though. I have applied to Burger King and McDonalds if that's what it takes. Or Meijer and Walmart. I also applied for a Janitor job.

I guess I would recommend going for walks and occupy yourself to avoid going for munchies or comfort food. I know from experience as a truck driver that lots of idle time and a bored mind made me reach for Monster Drinks or Mountain Dew or Fast Food. Come up with a hobby even if it's video games. At least for myself if my mind is really occupied with something I can play for quite a while without reaching for junk food.

Also I'm in my folks place and I do think my mom serves to many things buffet style or to much bread and potatoes. If you're getting you're meals from someone else it's kind of awkward. I'm just trying to get my own income going so I can take care of my own meals and expenses.

When I lost the car, my mom said "ok, now you cook for yourself, instead of eating fast food". So I did. I got a rice cooker to cook jasmine rice, and a small convection oven to cook roasts and turkey breasts. I cooked a boneless (formed) turkey breast, and I cooked a tri tip roast. I also have a George Foreman type clamshell grill that I've had for ages but never really used, and my grandfather's microwave. My mom rarely cooks for me. I have ramen, canned fish, and meat in a freezer. I also have club crackers, and oats. I've lost 30 lbs so far. I never liked to cook, now I'm cooking for myself.

There are literally hundreds if not thousands of applicants for every single job here. Sacramento, CA is second only to Las Vegas in severity of unemployment among large metro areas. It's simply not worth my time to fight thousands of NTs for a job. If only I could get my debt paid off, I could move out of state.

Why is a debt preventing you from moving interstate?

Yeah I know the economy is really bad here in Michigan.

I've given serious thought to relocating to Birmingham, AL just because I have relatives there.

Actually, 36 isn't too old for dating, as the man is considered 'in his prime.' What that means is that the man has a more mature perspective on life, and is more likely to be stable (that is, he doesn't jump from job to job on a whim.) And it isn't true that a woman won't look at you, as many girls in their late 20 early 30s actively date men who are in their 30s.

But, this is something that my stepfather told me (as I was following your lifestyle as well)-

"As long as you sleep all day and just lay around, nothing is going to happen for you. You'll still be living at home in your 40s and saying the same thing 'I wish I had a job/spouse/whatever' as long as you don't do anything to change it. You have to make yourself go out and do it, because it isn't going to come walking in that door."

If you are out of shape, then go out and find an activity that you enjoy that gets you moving. For jobs, go through job ads in the paper or on the Internet, and contact them. It might be a pain, and you'll get rejected a number of times (I know I did), but you'll eventually find one, especially if they are bottom level jobs.* And even though a bottom level job isn't the best, but it will show that you've been working, espcially if you need to find a better job later as these employers will look for this.

*And by bottom level, I mean like store bagger, dishwasher and others. These are easy to get into, and they will still help you pay off your loans.

You can do it. But you have to make yourself do it, even if it feels hard right now. But you'll be thanking yourself later because you did. :D

I've never been on a date at all. Consider yourself lucky you have gotten than far?
