Feels like I'm getting too far ahead
Basically, I've realized over time that my mother's way of "helping me" is probably going to end up putting me in an awkward or impossible scenario when I graduate (its 4 semesters and 2 summers including this one off but still). She arranged for me to be able to get a job for the past 2 summers at the school (for autistic kids w/ behavioral issues) where she works b/c I cannot drive (which I am grateful for so I can get work experience it at least sounds unique as an added bonus). This school does not have a librarian and my mom is kind of pushing for them to hold off on hiring someone so they can hire me once I graduate. This is good and bad in a bunch of different ways. I'm probably thinking farther ahead than I should be...
Considering that I want to go on to graduate school, this job would allow me to have a job and pursue a degree online. I already discussed w/ my mom the issue I have w/ this b/c it seems like she secretly wants me to continue living at home. Unless, I could find a cheap enough place near this school, I'd have no choice (and all the apartments are priced for yuppies if you know what that is... EXPENSIVE). On top of this, my eventual goal is to be able to work in a specialized library like the one being offered (specialized school), a medical library, or a collegiate library (why I need the master's).
I'm willing to continue working the summers at this school but feel hesitant about the idea of committing to working there. Since the kids, like myself are autistic I'm worried I might get attached and/or they might have issues if I left after just a full year (the one I'd be going to graduate school). I keep thinking that the smarter option might be trying to get a job and place to live near the graduate school (I also know someone sort of in that area) since I can't drive and it might eliminate the issue of needing to pay someone to take me to school once in awhile (bonus). I'm pretty much expected to have to fight to leave home and my area as my mother freaked out when I brought this up before (she hates the idea of me living in a city b/c I'm female
)- Usual complaints from her that I've ranted about before UGH.
Stuck between almost guaranteed job that I am almost certain I'd enjoy (I like the pop. of students I'd be working with) but feeling trapped by my family (as they're sort of arranging everything in my life but don't look at it that way even though they know that's how I see it) OR finding a job/place to live closer to the planned graduate school in secret (which I know would be more challenging but would make me feel more independent even if I had to have a roommate or something just b/c I'd be doing it w/o my mother's help) and become a job/apartment hunting spy
?
Am I getting too far ahead of myself?
