I mean just talking with people face to face. For some reason I never know what to say, and I usually end up not saying anything. People think I'm slow, but I do follow everything they say. I just can't respond to what they say.

If I actually get into a conversation about something intresting I usually do alright, but if its just useless small talk then yeah I really don't know what to say and chances are there is nothing I really feel like saying.

Yes, it's very typical of us. If you hang out here much you'll notice a lot of comments being made about this. A lot of people say they find it hard to hold a conversation about anything other than their special interest.

That pretty much defines Aspergers. Conversation doesn't come naturally unless we are talking about our interests.

I've found being in groups a lot worse than 1:1 conversation, since I tend to end up being left out of the conversation completely.

I've become really good at conversation. IN my earlier years I was very quiet and not many people knew hwat I was like because they've never talked to me. Now, 1v1 no problem, im polite, im charming and make the other person laugh and come across as a regular college guy...but the thing is i notice that my 1v1 conversations all follow a very similar pattern.....like 2 or 3 formulas i use over and over and over again.

in groups im a little more quiet but still am involved. I have a harder time inserting myself because i dont know when the right moment is....and its a little harder keeping a track of the 3-4-5 sided conversation. ...but im getting better as I engage socially with other people my age
