Can't eat food...depressed
Let me first say that I am lacto-vegetarain, so, I get grossed out by the prospect of eating animals or living things or anything that came from it.
Anyways, I recently started seeing cockroaches in the kitchen. I've read up about them, and they spread their excrement wherever they go, and lay their eggs.
Also, I was told that there are bugs that sometimes get into the assembly lines, when making foods.
This seriously sickens me, please help me figure out how I can combat this or whatever so I can eat again because as of today I hate all food because I am scared that bugs are doing those things: specifically cockroaches...
Therapy? Not eating processed foods? (You probably shouldn't read The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, about Chicago sausage factories a century ago. You may kill yourself if you do. Seriously.) Most of the problem is with meats, so if you don't eat meats you should be fine. Check to see if there are any farmer's markets near you-food grown "naturally" usually doesn't have all the critters.
Pezar is definitely right - Don't read 'The Jungle'.
There are some things one can do regarding roaches. Besides avoiding bringing certain things into the living area(s) and a 'reasonable' level of cleanliness, one can practice a few other specific actions to prevent (the most effective concept) and resolve bug problems. An online search can turn up some very useful tips -- which include different non-chemical treatments of infestation by TYPES of roaches (some things work better on German cockroaches, for example, than on a 'Palm Meadow' roach). ...Prevention is really key for this. Nip it 'in the bud' if possible - and I'd recommend finding out if the entire building is infested. This occurred in my life many years ago. I 'forced' the apartment manager to release me from my leasing agreement. If you're living in an actual building -and it's been infested- there's not much hope in winning that losing battle... Good luck!

It's your Dae today
I have the same problem as you, except that cockroaches are very rare, around where I live. I think about other bugs, instead. I won't mention which. Don't read about bugs. Don't allow yourself to almost lose your mind, like I almost have.
I'm not sure what to suggest, really... I was doing really poorly, some years ago, and almost stopped eating, but I started doing better when I thought I had found my true love... except she wasn't. So I guess the key is to somehow become a bit happier, so you will think less about it... not a good suggestion, I know. :/ You have to eat at least somewhat decently, though... especially fibre rich food... ceasing to eat causes damages to the body, including intestinal damage, which is a horrendous condition. You don't tend to completely cease to eat, surely? Surely you average at least one meal a day?
You should focus on eating that which is least likely to have bugs... so no meat, of course. Coconut is a good source of fibres and is unlikely to have bugs, and natural coconut actually is healthy, contrary to widespread belief. Other nuts might be good, too, as they have protective shells that keep the bugs out. Bananas are good, too; just inspect the peels for any holes - if they have none, they are very likely free of bugs. Other fruits with thick peels are good to choose, too.
I hope you're doing better, soon. :| I know exactly how you're feeling... or I'm rather sure I do, anyway.

I can't say such things really bother me.....I have never been anywhere with coacroach problems but I have been in pleanty of spider infested houses and I have spent quite a bit of time out in Minnnesota with my dads side of the family and lets just say it is not the cleanest environment and a lot of the houses are not built to all the saftey standards and such. The best advice I can give is just not to think about it, I mean even if you do end up with a bug in your food its not like its going to kill you or anything and chances are you would not even notice......so if it does ever bother me I tend to use the what I don't know can't hurt me approach.

Roaches dont usually nest inside your home unless you have some very humid and dark places in the house (such as a wall with water damage). They nest outside and come into your home to feed.
The best way to prevent roaches is to spray insecticide in the walls of your home outside, on the windows and door frames (outside) and use alcohol and vinegar to clean your kitchen/bathroom surfaces as the roaches will avoid those scents.
For any roaches already inside your home just buy those little trap-things. They are very effective.
Insects do get into assembly lines. The FDA allows X parts per million of insect parts in food. There's nothing you can do to avoid them other than grow your own food... and this applies to processed food only.
However due to your diet, you are unlikely to be using canned foods or processed foods... veggies and other greens that are washed and packaged wont have bugs because they are washed on one machine and literally bagged within a minute while they roll down a high speed line... it'd be hard for a bug to get into them in that situation.
Little known fact: The red coloring used in many products comes from crushed red beetles.
