I'm sure I've made plenty of threads here before, but oh well.

I've been feeling severely depressed again lately and it seems like I'm failing in every aspect of my life.

I feel like I need to get a job as I don't want to be on disability forever but I don't know what. Jobs that might be interesting hardly exist in Ohio and I don't think I could stand having another crappy job like the one I had at Kroger's. It's either that or go back to school which I've thought about plenty but find really confusing. Plus I'm not sure I want to risk any more money.

I've never had a girlfriend and something I've noticed that bothers me is that I seem to tend to be attracted to the mentally ill/substance abuser types. Mentally ill and/or substance abusing people marrying mentally ill and/or substance abusing people is the trend in my family but it doesn't produce good relationships. So I've started to question if being in a relationship is even worth it.

My mom and stepfather's long-running marriage problems have also been bad lately. My stepfather's been acting like a crazy dick and seems to have been drinking more lately, which is bad since he should never drink, he's an alcoholic.

I'm sick of life and feel like I don't have the motivation or energy to even try the uphill battle of changing it.

I know what you mean about disability and grocery store work. I'm in the same situation really. I think you can find work you like. What do you like? I like writing for instance.

Also, as far as girlfriends go - don't discount the mentally ill! Well if you've had really bad experiences with mentally ill girls I guess you have reason to be wary but mental illness doesn't preclude a good relationship.

Gosh, I work in a grocery store and I actually like it. I mean, I enjoy being at home more, BUT it's because I work in a grocery store that I have a home and food.

I just like being on my own and being able to support my modest life. You might feel much better getting out on your own. I couldn't stand to live with my mother's drunken boyfriend.

As for dating the mentally ill; I stand by my one piece of advise to all men; Don't sleep with Crazy, she will wreck your life. Why'd you want to do that?

Hi Dennis,
I'm English, so sorry but I dont know about life in America. Are there any people to speak to , who give careers advice? Maybe they could advise on different types of careers that may suit you, or if there are any state grants to have, if it means coming off disability income and getting into some sort of self-employment even. Or are there any grants to set up your own business?
Maybe worth considering having confidence to set up some business of your own, instead of thinking that store work is your only option.

I was self employed for 10 years and due to go into another new self employed career this week. I find it hard to work for someone else, and prefer to be my own boss, as I have self motivation and all the good aspie traits. Maybe you have some good aspie traits that you can use to make a success of some career for yourself.

good luck with whatever you decide to do. I hope it works out for you.

That would be nice but IDK. I'm in Ohio which isn't much good for jobs or for anything really. England sounds cooler. >_<

England has its faults, just like everywhere else, and the job situation is probably the same throughout the world, with little opportunity and not much on offer. and generally speaking, no one comes knocking on our door, offering us fabulous opportunities. We have to decide what we want out of life, and then format a plan of how we are going to achieve it, and start on the road to acomplishing that goal. Sometimes it might take a long time to get there, but being on the road to achieving it is better than doing nothing about it at all.
