So on a scale of (low)1-10(high) I'm at... f*****g miserable..

I feel as if I can't make my wife happy and I know it's my fault. I hide in video games from myself because I feel like a failure and I have a hard time getting out of them. I dont want to quit them entirely, but have a hard time saying when enough is enough. She cried today, because I'm too busy hiding from myself when I should be focusing on her, and it kills me to see her cry. About the only thing keeping me from self-mutilation right now is my love for her. I don't want to see her hurt anymore by my inaction, but I am having trouble limiting my game time. Today marked the first time in 3 years that I thought of hurting myself.

I need to change my ways before I lose the last thing in this world that means anything to me, but I have this insatiable desire to play video games. Anybody have any ideas that may help limit my obsession?

If you have games, I take it you buy them. I struggle with similar issues with gameplay, but exactly what is it about overplaying them thats affecting you negatively right now? If its your wife feeling like your not paying her any attention, set up a date with her (yes a date) to go out to dinner somewhere, and don't bring any portable handhelds with you. That way you not only get to spend time with her, your inadvertently cutting back on playing video games.

It's the fact that I can play for 6 hours and not realize it. I spend every moment on my computer. She usually wakes up after I do, so I will have been on the computer playing something for at least an hour by then and will be so zoned out that I don't pay any attention. I spend so much time on the computer because I hate myself, and I hate myself because I don't do enough with her. It's a vicious cycle with no end in sight.

From your description it sounds like time management might be a factor. Can you set an alarm for yourself?

If you start disregarding that alarm, you may want to work out what small things you can change so that you don't do that anymore.
