Wishing I was a different Mark

There are other people who share my name and have the successes I wish I had. Mark Crilley draws manga, Mark Romanek directs movies as well as music videod, and Mark "Barney" Greenway of Napalm Death is a well respected vocalist. I don't know about Romanek but I know Crilley and Greenway are in relationships and didn't have to become what their respective cultures (US and UK) told them to become to find love. I hate that my life has been a vicious cycle of frustration and failure. Why was I given all these desires but the ability to achieve them was denied?

I also just can't believe my life can change. I missed out on so many milestones in my developmental years and I didn't rise above my "sturm und drang" years but instead was crushed by them. I should've been aborted instead of prematurely born.

I agree that missing milestones really impacts negatively on the rest of your life.

Unlike the rednecks and general Bible Belters, I actually read about things like psychology but they shrugged it off as "serial killer crap".

I don't know anyone famous with my name.

I know the story of Mark Ruffalo, though.
He is an actor, of course, but he ended up being diagnosed with a brain tumour.
The operation to remove the tumour left his face partially paralysed, and he went deaf in one ear.
Then his brother was murdered.
So you can have success and great hardship; one does not rule out the other.

Everyone has trials and tribulations in their life.
You can either give up or work through them.

I don't know who the actor in the first picture is.

I used to dream about having a wife and maybe one or two children, creating music, and doing cool drawings but instead I can't even get a date, I can barely play my guitar, and I still draw at an amateur level.

I know a guy named Mark who's been a C-5 quadriplegic for about 40 years after a trampoline accident when he was 17.

I used to wish my name wasn't my name at all. Not for any reason in particular---just because I used to want to be named Dave or something.

My brother is named Marc.

I've got the most boring name in the world. I was almost called Richard, but my mother decided she didn't want me to be called Dick (every Richard I know is called Richard or Rich). If I ever get around to finishing a novel, I decided I like the pen name Stephen J Froud (because it almost sounds like fraud... my little joke). Quite like to be called Thomas Wyatt, after my mega obsession. I believe (in the UK at least) you can call yourself whatever you want, as long as it isn't obscene or for illegal purposes... you don't even have to do it officially (by deed poll).

What's in a name? Quite a lot, as it happens...

Do you find Wyatt to have written in Early Modern, or late Middle English?

Early modern... just. It was just the point in time where English was "solidifying" (???)... which Wyatt exploited as a superlative wordsmith, but he also spoke a number of languages fluently... Italian, Spanish, French, Latin (of course). But, what I find particularly fascinating is the way his poetry was so bound up with his life... and it was quite a life... makes up for the fact that he's not considered an A list poet (except by me, of course).

He was definitely a Wordsmith in Duet.

He was a courtier, I know. And one of those "wit" types who frequently got in trouble with the authorities.

I find that he wrote in English similar to that of William Caxton (which, I guess, would make sense, since they were only about one generation apart).

I'm glad my name isn't William----too many Williams to compare myself to! And too many Bills, too!
