So, about a month ago I started a blog strictly for my writing with the intention of getting it all out there in one place. My hope was that it would serve as just one of a few venues for getting myself published.

Well, the other day I noticed someone commented on my blog with a simple "Thank you". Someone I don't actually know, which means at least one person has stumbled on it. Good news for me, but the comment ended up just confusing me and I've been a bit down. Odd reaction, I suppose, but I just don't understand why anyone would thank me. I'm not sure why I'm sharing this... I guess I just needed to get it off my chest.

They were probably thanking you for writing something they enjoyed, I would imagine.

It's great that you told us that. I used to feel the same way when people would say thank you. I didn't know if they were being sincere or patronizing. It was especially hard when my dad would thank me in that manner.

That's certainly part of it, but I suppose I also don't see my writing as that good.

Your writing is definitely good enough to merit replies. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Be glad someone read it. :)

That would a little bit throw me off my stride, too.

The first thing that pops into my mind is that the person stole what you wrote, and was thanking you for writing it for them.

That came to mind for me, as well. However, I can prove it's my work if it comes to that so I'm not worried.

They might share your feelings, and be thanking you for "speaking for them".

Do bots comment on tumblr blogs? It's not my main blog.

I would think they do, but they'd probably also leave a link, or some convoluted and confusing mass of text.

Question: was it an anonymous comment, or did they leave something with which to identify them?

There was a name to it, and before I published it I had the option of clicking a link but didn't.
