My pet rat Holly passed away about 24 hours ago. I'm really missing her a lot, she was my little buddy.

I am sad for your loss. I hope time will ease the pain for you so you can remember the good times with Holly more easily.

Rats are such sweet pets.

Thanks for your kind replies. It's really hard to lose such a sweet pet, but things are getting better for me each day. We just got 2 little baby ratties, Punkin & Spice, who are in no way a replacement for Holly (and her sister Ivy who passed some time ago), but they are helping soften the blow. I think they're going to be real music lovers - every time they hear it, they "chirp" and squeak along... so cute... and I can't help but get a smile from that.

I know what you're saying, Punkin & Spice are two totally different rats with distinct personalities as all animals are. No one can replace anybody else but they can help ease the loss. I hope you and Punkin & Spice have a long time of happiness together.

I'm so sorry about Holly - I hope that you're enjoying getting to know Punkin and Spice and that they bring you some peace.

*Awkward aspie hug*
Loosing a pet hurts, I still cry when I think about a dog that died 8 years ago.

Thanks again everyone and *awkward Aspie hugs* to all of you for your kind, thoughtful replies and support. Punkin & Spice are both adapting and doing quite well in their new home, I'm happy to report. Their apparent love of music continues to grow, and they are indeed softening the blow of my recent loss. I still get a bit sad about Holly at times, but that's all part of the natural grieving process, and it is getting better every day, as I said before.

So sorry to hear about your loss. I've had pet rats before. They are so smart and cuddly, and I love their tails. (((Hugs DJFester)))

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

That was beautiful, Kaelynn.

I have heard a little about Rainbow Bridge, but had never seen this before. It gives me hope that I'll be with my beloved Holly again one day. Thank you very much.
