Have you ever quit drinking before? The symptoms can be pretty difficult for the first few days, then you are out of the woods. Of course that doesn't help when you are going through them.
As for getting whiskey now, all that does is postpone the inevitable and waste money that you will need then. Painkillers wouldn't be of much help now, I wouldn't think. Mentally they might, but physically they may be the worst thing for you. A guy I know would take two Benadryl when he stopped drinking. Helped him calm down some and he said it helped the symptoms go away. Didn't help with the insomnia part much, because it's not strong enough, but it helped him relax.
I do feel you though. If I can help, PM me

Thanks for the advice and sentiments Frances--much appreciated.
I might be overstating my drinking--I may be too hard on myself. I drink about 3-5 times a week, usually a glass of wine or a beer with or after dinner. Occasionally it might be two, and sometimes I binge. I'm really trying to cut down on the binges and really need to stop being hard on myself for drinking responsibly.
Booze is kind of a special interest of mine. I drank way too much as a youngling and getting out of that habit was a living nightmare.
I routinely give it up just to cleanse out my system and all. I don't like giving it up long term. Psychologically, it greatly distresses me. Usually I'll pick up smoking or some other drug use to compensate. Self-medication and all.
I actually avoid benadryl, but that's another story.
Thanks for the reply and reading something logical and rational and helpful was really beneficial. I'm doing a fair bit better right about now.
