I had that exact same fear of public restrooms up until I was around 10 or 12 years old, and I still have a fear of public showers.

When I started junior high school, that was the first time I ever encountered the concept of undressing in front of others in the gym locker room. Being shy in the first place, I wasn't about to change clothes in front of a group of girls so I would go in a bathroom stall.

Of course, the others noticed this and would force the door open (they didn't have locks) to expose me (why can't they just leave folks alone?) Though I gradually got over my fear of undressing in front of the others that semester, each new school year, I had to go through the same process. The locker room had individual shower stalls, thank goodness, but we weren't even required to take one after gym class.

nirrti_rachelle, i was same way through middle and high schoo, i would never get dressed or undressed in fornt of others, beucase i didnt want to be blamed for loking in wrong direction while talking plus my bosdy was really underdeveloped and didnt want teasing (im female) also for a long time at home i wouldnt use bathroom until the door was locked securely.

i never took a shower in gym even though i wouldnt mind since they had individula stalls but i hated was school blaming kids for oders and using the still working shower room as a closet for sports equipment.

about public restrooms i dont mind that much as long as thers no cameras(its illegeal top ahve cameras in resrom anyhow) and to make sure nobody is standing on toilet in stall next to me to look down on me.

about physical fitness, all they would say to me is do all that u can. about aspergers and gym some have mild hypotonia( mild weakness) and cant keep up while running or any stenus actuivity. i feel that many schools are soo full of jocks and they design curriculum for gym class around sports and stuff the jocks love. i think gym should be more into fitness and education not all sports all the time and not make it into a bootcamp for heaveyweights because their way of excersize routines are for stretching. u need to do more then strectch or work ur butt off to keep ur body looking the way of healthyness they think is healthy and seems many times they dont take ur lack of coordination or weakness into consideration. i never really liked gym that much accept working out on weight room machines or playing ping pong.

When I was in 7th grade I had my own indoctrination to public showers in gym class.

It was September 1992. My teacher was in the boys locker room yelling at all of us to take our clothes off and get in the showers. All of us were forgien to the idea of being naked around each other. We all had just done the mile run and most were hot and sweaty. He went and locked the door and said no one was leaving until we all had gotten clothes off. Not being one who wanted to be late for fourth hour, I promptly stripped and hit the showers.

Everyone was looking at me strange. I don't think it was a smart thing for me to do.

I was scared of going into the School Washroom, when I was in both Kindergarten and Grade 1. It got to the point, where I've almost wet myself in Grade 1 and my Teacher had to convince me to go into the Girls' Bathroom. I've gotten over that fear very quickly, when I was in Grade 2, because I was moved to another School, in another Neighbourhood, and I've no longer had the option of doing a Tinkle at home, before returning back to School, after enjoying a Grilled Cheese Sandwich.

Dislike public facilities (for bodily functions) even now that I'm a grownup. Not comfortable sharing environment w/others, meaning I don't want to sense and/or be sensed. Don't want to hear or smell or see someone else performing a bodily function, nor do I wish to be heard, smelled, or seen doing so.
Wish nudity weren't so scary to me, I feel "naked" & vulnerable even when fully clothed, esp. whenever I leave home.
Being forced to use facilities in school w/o privacy was made even worse by the mean kids. You'd think I'd get over the shock & stress of what was considered "normal" but it didn't stop bothering me. Halfway through 10th grade, I got pass to "Adapted phys. ed" class instead, where one didn't have to be exposed or do much physically. Long story how I got in that class, but it was for chronic physical problem, hadn't been dx'd w/AS yet.

I don't like them either because they seem dirty. I hardly ever use them if I can help it. Most people I've talked to are the same.:D

Yeah I I never showered with the other guys when I was around 11-12. Still not comfortable with it. But back then I was also well developed for my age(yes guys could be that too). And I was afraid that the others would notice me for it.

i used to be afraid of the silhouette of my hand in the dark. i would be lying in bed and hold up my hand at night and the shape of it freaked me out.

Whoa, thread necro.

Well, why not...

I imagine many Aspies have odd phobias. In my case, I am deathly terrified of the cartoon "Mickey's Elephant" and will quite literally get ill if confronted with any footage from it.

A lot of fears seem to be irrational to me. It's all relative, so then there's really nothing weird, just unique.

I'm glad I never had to go through with the gym shower stuff, being homeschooled by then, and I barely ever have to use public restrooms. But I can not use our bathroom at home whenever a cat is in there. Not really sure if I should consider it a fear, but our cats will just sit in the tub or behind all the bottles of shampoo, and then come up behind me and make me jump. Not cool. :P

Others find it odd that I'd be more afraid of whales than sharks, I guess. With knowledge that some could be bigger than football fields(at least what I've read), they seem much more scary, even if I'll never be in any sort of situation with one in my lifetime.

Still can't sleep without any sort of dim light on, nor without any white noise(usually have two fans running even during winter), but those have more to do with sleeping habits I suppose.
