Why do these scientists and doctors keep looking for a cure for autism? I don't want a cure, and I wish they will never find one.

I know someone will say "well, just don't take the cure then" - I can't! I live in a country where every social benefits and excemptions (such as military service etc.) are strictly dependent on wether or not there is a cure for your "illness". Don't misunderstand me, I am not keeping to my AS because of the social benefits, but because that is who I am, but who I am needs social benefits to function, that's just tough life, I know, but I don't want to trade my personality away for ANYTHING!

My AS is my personality, it is my soul!

I just don't see my Aspergers Syndrom as an illness. Yes, I have my limitations, but I'd rather be social moron than another person. If they EVER find a cure for autism, I will, I repeat I WILL commit suicide!

You need charity to be who you really are? Well, maybe your a lazy bastard then if that's your attitude.

The "cure" is for the non-talking head-banging autistics who suffer every day. I doubt it's possible to cure but that's another discussion.

I want to work, and I do work. I just can't do it without the support I need for my everyday life, what I said is that that is just tough life, but I don't want to trade it for an easier more independent life, IF it means I will become another person!

I am not lazy!

Oh okay, maybe I misunderstood you there then. I would not take a "cure" myself, since as far as I'm concerned that would have to be a brain-washing.

Hi,

I don't mean this in a negative way to you or anyone else reading this, but really, I believe that big pharma and the medical industry run the show, and they will never create a "cure". There's too much money and power in treatments and medicines.

I'm sorry to be so cynical.

I also don't wish to be cured. I don't want to give up my identity.

Actually, I have mixed opinions on vaccines. I have mixed opinions on medicines and treatments as well.

Given the options of natural, homeopathic, or alternative treatment, if it's had success, those options would be my first choice.

I would never deprive another person of their choice to get a vaccine, medicine or treatment, and conversely, I also think it should be a choice in many cases.....like flu shots for example. I don't need or want the flu shot, but if someone wants to get the flu shot, they should have that choice.

When I first came here, I didn't want to be cured, either. But now I wish there was a cure. My life would be much better then. Right now I get money from the government because I can't work, drive a car, or live on my own. I'll probably never get married, either.

That is the same situation for me, I do work though, what I am capable of, but I can't drive, and I can't live on my own and I can't even get a girlfriend.

But I don't want to trade my personality away for these things either.
