Shutting down isnt an option

Yes, it does depend on circumstances. In my case, most of my family has left home, and all I need to do is make it through the minimum necessary hours at a minimum wage job. So reducing my external functioning to something minimal and mechanical (e.g. what others require) is a viable option. Others may have more pressures on them.

im not living by others standards. Im doing things which I think are positive at the time but end up in disaster

When I do things, I am so full of conviction. Then later I realize I was totally off base. I know there is something cognitively wrong with me - it's like I'm moving at a slower speed than everyone else ... eventually I figure it out, but then it's too late. Usually something good comes out of it though ...
