My best friend in the world has been offered a job elsewhere - in another state. He mentioned he's seriously considering going in part because they're offering a six-figure income.

I'm deeply saddened over the prospect of losing another friend. They've all moved on to bigger and better things. Kind of makes me think I shouldn't bother making friends at all because, as history has taught me, they'll always leave.

I know this feeling all too well, especially since the house I grew up in neighbored a rent house that frequently changed occupants.
I wish you the utmost comfort and serenity in the times to come. Just remember, though, that the brief(?) time you and he spent together had a positive impact on you both, and that you have both been changed for the better because of your friendship. This impact will last much longer than any physical bonds can. :) I am not saying that you shouldn't feel sad--sadness is definitely warranted in this situation. Friendships are painful, yes, especially when they end. However, they are worth having, if even for those few precious moments that recreate our destinies and who we are as people.
