One of my roommates told another behind my back that I was a “creature”. One of my other roommates is female and, unfortunately I have a bad habit of mimicking people. Apparently he has a problem with me acting like her when we are around each other. I told them, I tend to copy people in order to try to handle how to behave socially. I am actually kind of hurt that he would tell people I was someone’s creature.

I am a human being. I don't think like everyone else and I do not enjoy maybe what everyone else does. Maybe I get annoying with my obsessive hobbies, and yes I copy people and act like "other people" but I have feelings.

I am not a creature.

What a horrible thing to say. You have explained to them why you behave the way you do. Mimicking people is entirely harmless, being cruel is not. You are a person not a creature, and clearly a much nicer person than your roommate.

That is a terrible thing to say about someone... hood thing they didn't say that about me (especially if meds weren't working) it would not have gone down well.

Wow, that's pretty harsh. If it were me I probably would've turned around and said "at least I'm a creature and not just a piece of s**t"

Sometimes I feel a bit like a creature. In fact I often refer to myself as a little creature. But I kinda mean it in a positive way cos sometimes I don't really feel like a person. And that's cool with me. But any name can be hurtful if meant that way, so this person is clearly an idiot..

Just the word creature being used was not as hurtful as being told I was someone's creature. I know that my mimicry can get annoying but I guess people do not always understand how autism can make socialization a chore. Being told I am someone's creature really f*****g hurt, like I do not have independent thoughts or something. Just because I copy inflections of speech and mannerisms does not make me inhuman.

I did tell him that, if I ever heard him say that about me behind my back or in front of my face I would kill him. I think I meant it, too. I would probably cause him a great deal of bodily harm. He was lucky I had a piece of soft pastel in my hand, I value my art supplies more than his face.

My boyfriend copies inflections of speech really badly, which can be awkward living in a very multicultural area of London.. I have to give him a poke now and then incase someone thinks he's mocking their accent or something!

yea lol i get that... doing bodily harm is nothing tho i have learned that... here is how u get revenge...

You dont hurt the other person like they hurt you.... you destroy them you grind them into dust... causing bodily harm pfft big whoop that goes away usually... causing mental damage is much more powerful.. first you get them fired from work then you make it so that all thier firends alienate themselves from that person you have no limits just destroy the persons social life their future prospects and mess up thier mind....

Oh gosh i need help LOL but really i use to think like this... i have learned tho and now i cant even hold a grudge for more than 24 hours...

In the end, non-autistics just do not GET it. We do not OPT to do anything awkward or rude. We are not plotting, devious, inconsiderate people. And no we do not have a whole variety of topics of interest all the time. Most of the times we just want to be happy and at peace with what we love.

agreed i recently had a fall out with a special woman in my life and she was very mad (she overreacted due to massive stress) and said that my disorder made me not able to realize the opposite between right and wrong... 8O ru kidding! aspies Definitley know the difference between right and wrong its one of our best aspects...

I told her that i was hurt because of this. she responded saying i have no right to feel hurt and everything is my fault, i have never had someone hate me with such passion... and its so not like her she is just in a real bad place... i have forgiven her and myself and im praying for her even though she still hates me. But her misunderstanding of my disorder started a chain of bad events and yes we arent what the world protrays us to be...
