1. Keeping Myself Confidential
2. I got quite a few death threats in my time. Though it settled down before joining here.
I had a few irl but yeah most were online. Yes maybe they were made by immature teens but I may have taken them to heart.
Just sharing, I don't need sympathy or empathy as it ended. Only occured then so I can't do anything about it now except not let it get the better of me.

Are you happy not opening up? If so then there isn't any need to.

If you would rather be more open, I'm sure you could fictionalise details enough to keep your privacy. I would never disclose my real name simply because I wouldn't want people to Google me and it lead them here, but apart from that I don't really have any confidentiality concerns. Do you worry that people you know will read what you write?

Hopefully you wouldn't get death threats here and if you did the Mods would deal with it. I don't know where you live but in the UK sending someone death threats (including via the internet) is illegal.

Like I said... was all in teen years... I just took it to heart.
A lot of it is "hearsay".
To answer your questions yes I am happy with what I disclose and I do fear in a way that I would be figured out quite easily even if the chances are incredibly unlikely.

I suppose I think that if anyone did figure out it was me, they would have to know me really, really well. I think only my Mother, sister or boyfriend would recognise me from my posts. I doubt any of my friends could identify me, far less any acquaintances. But I know what you mean, even though we are all semi-anonymous here this is still a public place and we should probably consider very carefully before giving out too much information. That doesn't come naturally to me: if someone asks me something I answer their question and then tell them all sorts of other things they didn't need or want to know. Probably like I am doing now!

I try not to share too much information...

For one, I will not post a picture of myself, give my full name, or say exactly where I live.

There are just some things that I will not open up about.

However, WP is supposed to be a safe website for those on the spectrum. Right now, I have no other outlet for AS support. So, I had no other alternative but to try WP again. It's just unfortunate that most of the folks I chatted with are all gone.

I have never had social issues online outside of WP. For one, I never trusted other social media websites, as I was aware of predators, online bullying, and identity theft. Even today, I will not create a personal Facebook account. I only use Facebook for my family's nonprofit organization.

I keep ID info, financial info, medical info, and personal info on a mostly need to know basis. I do make adjustments on a case by case basis, though. Here at WP I do discuss some medical info as it has a bearing on my whole reason for being on the site. I will discuss extremely general financial stuff--without revealing important details that could risk what little finances I have. The same goes for personal info. I will discuss some general info, but not give any identifying info.

It's gotten to the point where, if a site requires my real name, like for signing online petitions, I will only use the first letter of my first name and then my last name. Sometimes I will only use the first letter of both my first and last names. I also always give a fake B-day and B-Year when registering anywhere. I use a year near my own, though, because most sites have rules about young people using the site. I haven't been that young in decades. The month and day I use are the B-day of a deceased relative, but I don't use that relative's B-year, so it doesn't compromise the relative in any way. It's just, by using this relative's B-day I can remember it better than if I made up a B-day.

I also don't use regular social sites, and never have. I don't see any need for it. And I don't do banking online. If I had stocks I wouldn't do that online, either. I do use a Walmart card online occasionally, but that only accesses whatever cash was put on it, not my bank. I am also thinking of getting a prepaid credit card to buy some non Walmart stuff, too, but again, that won't access my bank, just the cash I put on the card.

So I guess I'm careful without being paranoid about it. :D
