I work with a NGO which caters to teach underprivileged children spoken english
Its beginning of the year and i have been filling form of these children's background

many of them live in families where father is sick with tumor, kidney failure
there are 8-10 people living in a family with a tiny 100 sq.ft room and toilet
facility and water outside in public place.

Many of the children have lost either one parent, life is really tough for them
the school is in a pathetic condition with paint scrapping down, stinking rooms,
70 students cramped in a tiny room with fans not functioning many times
rodent running here and there and spider web covering the entire ceiling.

Many children stand in a queue even during the rains to collect the food provided by our NGO
they sit in dirty corridors eating the food

i feel if we could just use our education and skills in helping the poor and needy
we would contribute to society and instead of spiraling down into depression because
of not being lapped up by corporates for lucratives jobs we could be happy by making other needy people
happy

a low paying NGO job is also enough for boosting our morale and self confidence

I agree with your sentiment that providing for others can help to heal ourselves.

God(s/ whatever deities be) bless though children--may they receive all of the love and prosperity possible. <3
