My whole family is out for dinner. All 28. Having fun the whole night. And I'm here, all alone, doing nothing.

I don't even want to go, because I really don't like going to restaurants and fake being nice and interested in other peoples problems.

But actually I do want to go. I want to have fun to! I want to be able to do something like that once in a while. Why can't I?

It's so frustrating!! I want neither and want both :(

Does this make any sense?

Yes that makes sense. My Mum and sister often do things together and although I probably wouldn't like to do those things, I feel sad that I am not doing them. I know it's illogical but I can't seem to stop feeling that way.

Yup, sounds like what I go through some of the times. Usually I can go and deal with it but sometimes I will resist if for no other reason than my mom likes to try and dress me for the occasion. I am 38 and live on my own, I don't need my mom to choose what I will wear because it will make her look better to the people she knows.

Yes, a part of me wants to go out and have fun sometimes, but at the same time, another part of me doesn't want the hassles involved in dealing with other people.

As for dealing with relatives, I am in my early 50s and live alone, but my relatives still tell me what I should be wearing when I am home alone! Naturally, when I am home alone--which is most of the time--I wear what I want and what is comfy for me. DUH!! ! They also tell me what I should and should not be eating. They are not footing my food bill. Also, I don't have any other real vices, or any real pleasantness in my life, so I will at least eat what I want.

An adult living alone shouldn't have to be subjected to this. :wall: And then they complain that I don't visit them much. DUH!
