Had a rough night

So, last night, me and my friend were at a campsite, we'd been drinking for a few hours, and I'm sitting there enjoying the quiet. Then he starts talking about how great a particular someone is, even though we both agreed in the past not to talk about this person when I'm around. I'm only annoyed at this point. Then, he starts telling me what to do with my life, telling me I can do anything I want to in this world. Now, I'm getting pissed. This is going on for probably an hour. I was in a bad mood when he asked if I wanted to smoke a pipe(I smoke tobacco pipes). I told him no, and that I didn't feel like packing and all that. I also told him that he could smoke one if he wanted. He then tells me, in a sarcastic tone, that packing is too much trouble. Things progressively get worse, our neighbors were laughing at the whole conversation, which pissed me off even more. My friend then asks if I want to fight. I said no. He said I'll kick your ass. I reached into my pocket, opened up my knife and told him to back off. I wasn't about to fight this guy in the dark. He's way bigger than I am, which is why I pulled my knife out. He's asking me what my problem is, and I tell him he just said he wanted to fight me. He denied it, seconds after saying it. I tell him off, and start walking. He asks how I was getting home, and I said I'll call for a ride. I call my parents, and start walking towards the pool hall. I played a game of pool, wondering how I was going to get all my stuff back without trouble. Eventually, I made my way a mile up the road to get picked up.
I left behind $50 worth of groceries including beer, three pipes, two pounds of tobaccos, and a bad ass tent. Oh yeah, and two jackets, one of which was my favorite. I told him he could have it all cause it didn't mean a thing to me. Unfortunately, because of this, I might not be able to get this stuff back legally. Well, that was my night.

Sorry to hear that, he's obviously one of those types that likes to push peoples buttons..

I know a few like that but I try to avoid them- they get worse as they drink too. If he was hammered he may not remember the details of what happened and you could possibly get your stuff back.


But if he refuses I would consider just leaving it, if it goes to court you can claim duress (you just wanted to get away) so your stuff isn't automatically his. If the neighbours saw him getting aggressive that will make it clear.

However you did pull a knife on him, I wasn't there obviously but that's something that he will likely come back with.

The only times we've ever had an argument, was when alcohol was involved. This was probably our worst. When he drinks, he's a completely different person. Our friendship is done. I hope to get my stuff back. If I don't get it back, I will take it to small claims. I forgot to mention a guitar as well. All in all, total value of things lost is about $450. As for the knife, I only pulled it out to keep him away. If he tried coming after me, and had I used the knife, I would have been able to claim self defense. He's far bigger than I am, and he is scary looking when pissed.
