I hope people won't consider this inappropriate to post here because of it being more positive. This seems like the right place, and I don't mean to upset anyone who's having a hard time. In fact the reason I'm posting at all is because I've been through some tough stuff lately and I'm just relieved that I seem to be getting my life together.
I quit university under bad circumstances several years ago and did not think I would go back, which pretty much crushed all of my career hopes and life plans. After that I was diagnosed with bipolar and anxiety disorders that had been getting steadily worse and seemed to still be going that way, I wasn't getting the help and support I needed, and the few "friends" I had dropped away when I became depressed. No one around me was interested in knowing about or accommodating my suspected Asperger's. To make matters worse I went through some unhealthy relationships that trashed my self esteem and left me with intimacy issues.
So that's the bad part. The GOOD part is that little by little I've basically solved all of those problems. I started back to school in 2011 and have been having a great time and steadily improving my study skills and coping abilities. I'm pursuing my special interest again and making plans for the future again that involve something other than being dependent and depressed.
I finally found a fantastic team of psychologists and psychiatrists who have been able to help me manage my mental health and get me to a much more stable place. They are also very supportive of an Asperger's diagnosis and are looking to get me officially tested when I can get through a waiting list. In addition, I've worked hard to make my family aware of Asperger's and get them to understand me, which is partly because I've learned a lot from visiting WP and talking to folks here
In fact I start attending a spectrum support group next week that should prove really interesting.
Last but not least I've been enjoying being single for a while and getting to be more independent. I feel a lot more positive and clear-headed about relationships and a lot less desperate. It's let me see when someone is really compatible and seek them out instead of thinking I'm not worth their attention. And so I've suddenly realized, what do you know, there ARE those in the world who are both interesting and genuinely nice, however loaded that term might be over in L&D
So, yeah, sorry for the long post. Sometimes it's just nice to share good news, and even though it's incredibly cliched... if anyone thinks there's something unique about me that let me get out of the crappy place I was in a few years ago, there's *not*. Sometimes time and trial and error (lots of error!) do the trick. To be really nerdy, even if you keep crit failing eventually your character still levels up...

I'm glad that things are working out for you but I really don't see things getting better for me any time soon. It seems that every time something good happens in my life, some vengeful god makes something terrible happen to compensate for the alleviation of stress brought on by the aforementioned good thing. ![]()
