The last friend I had left in my age range has moved out of state as of tonight. This wasn't always a healthy person for me to be around due to his alcoholism and psychiatric issues, but now I feel very alone. The only friends I have left around here are a 60+ year old Vietnam vet who is mostly deaf and a borderline aspie/ADHD person I know who is 20. Neither relationship is likely to expand my social circle enough for me to meet other people my age. Nor are they people I could go to a social place with to try and meet a girl. No, now I am alone again and my prospects for this changing are quite slim. I don't like going into places where I don't know anyone and so now any chance of a social life has ended. Add to that the fact that I work a night job 6 nights a week and I have no chance to change my fate. I feel very depressed and hopeless and have no idea how to change it.

• Join a gym
• Join a not-for-profit organization such as army cadets as an officer taking kids on outings
• Join a charity organization
• Enroll on adult educational courses
• Take up a hobby that requires a partner such as diving
• Become skilled at something that acts as a reason to attend an event like poker tournaments
• Learn to fly a plane and hang out in the pilots lounge at the airport with follow pilots (personal favorite)
• Go to AS social groups
• Set up your own AS social group
• Learn an instrument and look for ads for band openings

I'm gonna assume you are like 30s or 40s? It has been my experience that NTs of that age group only talk about two things, their jobs and their kids. That talk just made me more depressed than I already was. I tried to hang out with younger people and that didn't work out so well, either.

I think the best advice I can give you is to just do what you want and if all you can attract is a small circle of friends, then that's okay. Better than no friends, I guess.

The problem too is that I have a certain duality to me where I really want people to be around but really want to be alone too. It's hard to explain and probably comes from a lifetime of misunderstandings coupled with the primal human urge to be social.

I don't have any friends living near me in or out of my age range. I'm almost the same age as you. I'm 37.

I'm fine with that. I prefer to stay home a lot and if I had friends they would actually expect me to leave the house and do things, plus I wouldn't know what to talk about with these people. I don't work or have kids. I'm not interested in things like music or sports and I don't watch a lot of tv except dvds I have.

They have grown old and got incredibly boring...
Well in principle that is interesting, if that would be some meaningful discussion and not just stereotype NT.
Their kids are probably more interesting than they are

I am about in the same situation as you. But that I could do what I want, forget it. I have a job to do that kills me at the moment.
And without that... I dont want to imagine
