I just got home from the hospital. The doctor told me I might have MS. This sucks greatly and I don't know what to do. I see a neurologist on Thursday to get his opinion. What do I do if I have MS?

From what little I know, build up your body as much as possible to slow the breakdown process. Still, I hope it's a better diagnosis! Good vibes your way!

I hope you have a good outcome. One can hope you don't have it, and it's just a misunderstanding right now :)

i hope that you don't have it, as it seems like a crappy and debilitating thing to have to deal with. i worked with a woman who had it, but it turned out to be mild. she would have occasional health problems and symptoms but she was mostly ok. so that may be the case for you too- even if you are diagnosed with it, you may still lead a healthy and fulfilling life.

Please make sure they rule out Lyme Disease as a possibility. I was admitted to the hospital as an emergency because the clinic found lesions in my brain. They assumed MS. It turned out to be Lyme. My MS diagnosis was ruled out by a spinal tap and follow up MRI's. My Lyme was diagnosed by Elisa, Western Blot, and PCR.

What BlueMax said...

I knew a guy for some time, who had MS. It was mild, got a bit bad for the days after he'd drink though. So I'd recommend not drinking. You may want to consider working out, doing strength training, cardio, eating a really healthy diet, and drinking a lot of water... That's what my friend did and he was for the most part okay with the help of some meds. He was 35, still doing martial arts training and heavy weight lifting. If you're MS isn't really severe, there is a lot you can do to live a happy, healthy, and strong life.

Thank you for the replies, the support is helpful. I was kind of still in shock last night, but now I'm totally freaked out about my appointment tomorrow. I'm freaked out about what it means if I have MS, but also freaked out that it could be something worse than MS, and worried that I may not really get an answer tomorrow about the probability that it is/isn't MS, or what it really is. My appointment is only 13 hours away, but it can't come soon enough. I'm so anxious about it. But then I'm afraid to go to the appointment, because I'm afraid it will be some kind of terrible news that I haven't even considered. Obviously, I will be going to the appointment despite being terrified to go as it is the only logical thing to do, but I'm still afraid. I'm afraid he'll order a lumbar puncture, the idea of a needle in my spine nearly makes me throw up, I don't know if I could do it. I'm the "strong one" too, so I don't like to show that I'm afraid because if I'm afraid then my parents and fiance get really afraid. I'm so happy I'm on my own. I wouldn't want my mom or dad to see me freaked out like this. But I feel alone in this, but I don't want anyone else to worry unless they have to. I wish I could have a hug, I wish I felt comfortable getting a hug, somehow that sounds like it would help somehow. I just want to sleep until tomorrow morning, but I am not too optimistic about being able to sleep tonight. If I had someone to drive me tomorrow I'd take a seroquel, but I have to drive almost an hour to get to the doctor's office. It's all just so messed up and I'm panicking, but trying not to.

Symptoms of MS may mimic those of many other nervous system disorders. The disease is diagnosed by ruling out other conditions. So try to relax it is unlikely to get a diagnosis quickly with MS. Why worry about what you cant control.

...and getting some exercise to build up your body and endurance will help regardless - whatever the ailment or none at all!

That said, I've only recently started doing the same... hard to get motivated when I'm feeling mopey.

How was your appointment? I have had a LP before, so if you do need one I can give you a sort of "walk-through" of the procedure. How it felt physically, that kind of stuff. I hope you don't need one though.

That sucks. I guess the one upside is that this is noticed sooner rather than later. I wish you all the best. I don't know much about living with that syndrome, but one of my family members (who lives in another country has it). *hugs*

Yeah, not to pressure you or anything, but we are probably just as much anticipating how it went as you were.

Are things ok?

Well, I still may or may not have MS. The neurologist says it's "possible MS" and I have to get a few tests done first. I have to have an EEG and another kind of test where they make me look at stuff and listen to stuff and they lightly shock my fingers and toes and measure my brain's reaction or something. He wants to do both of those before he puts me through a LP, which I am glad about. I have to go for another MRI too, but I have to wait for that. My toes move the wrong way, though, when he did a reflex test so he said that part of my brain is acting abnormally but he isn't certain why yet.
I spent a couple of days kind of in a shutdown, just trying to allow myself time to understand and deal with the situation. I think I'm feeling better about the situation now. It looks like, even if I do have MS, it's not really any worse than the depression and migraines I already have dealt with for most of my life. So, I'm still mildly freaked out, but I can think straight now, which is good because college starts on Tuesday. I'm a little worried that not feeling well will interfere with my classes, but hopefully I can handle it.
Anyway, sorry about the wait for the update.

We got your back, Mmuffinn. And please do remember that a lot of things have to be ruled out before MS is a factor. Right now you're not going through the process BECAUSE you have MS but because they want to make sure that they're not missing possible MS. There are many things that look like it that aren't, and this gives people fits during the process of figuring it out.

I have bad pinched nerves, a connective tissue disorder, and muscle pain, and for a while I thought it might be MS. The symptoms are very similar with a heck of a lot of things.
