I have been approved for SSI but because I have too many assets the government cannot do anything for me. The problem is is that the insurance even if I could get help wouldn't covered my medication (I am MtF transgendered) so I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. My family has been paying for my medication for a long time because I am unable to keep a job and those costs have devastated my family but because I held some money back to keep me off of the street when my mom dies I cant get SSI help, but that money wont pay for my medication for long. For-profit medical insurance still considers transsexual as a pre-exiting condition so that isn't an option either.
If you don't have anything nice to say please don't respond.

What are they counting as assets that prevent you from receiving SSI? Caseworkers actually have a lot of discretion in determining what assets should be counted. However you are allowed to own a house and one working car. You might even be able to own additional land or property if you are unable to sell it. Most individuals at the social security administrations are not sufficiently educated on various programs their office overseas, so it's advisable that you take the time to educate yourself on these matters. On many occasions, the social security administration has told me things that were flat out wrong, and I was able to rectify the situation.
