leave my letter alone

But your letter was meant as a standalone left open to interpretation. If a person addresses another as 'you' it's usually obvious who they are referring to given the context.

I personally didn't take offense. Just echoing Chrissy's sentiment.

I only commented because I thought it was poorly worded and could be taken the wrong way. Chrissy might have gotten the wrong end of the stick? Which shouldn't happen if you write effectively.

Yea, I was just confused :?

I think that dear you, dear so-and-so, dear person, etc is to a certain person
You people who are annoying me, hey rude (vague title like customers, coworkers, etc) is to a specific group
You lot..... applies to a group that we don't know....since it is following a lot of people....it is only natural to assume that....but then she says that we are complaining and it only seems like it applies to the group previously because to another person not in the situation....we may feel like we are saying ridiculous things.

Sorry for the misunderstanding

dear you*,

OSB was not attacking the letter writers of the thread. she was speaking to an unnamed group of people instead of just addressing one individual, which is totally fine. please note that "you" is ambiguous too as that pronoun can refer to an entire group of people. "you" is not necessarily any is no more specific than "you lot".

from me

*yes, i meant it as a plural "you". see what i did there?

Dear Muppet,

I didn't give you this name. The fact that someone else did, means that I am not necessarily the one with the problem in this thrust-together relationship that we have as other people have problems with you too. So stop making out like I am the problem here. I am not. We jointly have created and continue the problem - neither one of us is specifically the problem.

You act like I'm the cause of our difficulties. You think that I accuse you of things behind your back. I do not. You read into my actions things that I would never think of doing. If you would talk to the people who come to me with problems they having with you, you would know that I defend you all the time. I think that what you do is difficult and draining, and know that I could not do it. This is why I have not been put in your position.

Yes, I admit when we communicate I do not always do it well and this perpetuates the problem. But I don't mean to do it. I never have intended to do it. Ever. If you would just take the time and be patient with me, to get to the bottom of what I'm trying to communicate instead of making assumptions you'd know this ... and then we could move on and actually do some good.

YB.

Dear Hyperlexian and OSB

Thanks, I was being a little bit too sensitive about the usage of you.
But ya cleared it up. :D

Sincerely Chrissy

Dear XGF,

Don't stand there pointing my flaws and yet, I have to stare at your ugly azz face. You are so insecure that material objects and money are your own token of self worth. Never mind, you are barely a competent engineer. You only became an engineer to brag about yoru status rather than passion for the field. You are a poser and a product of dogma.

Signed,

9512 (who has outgrown your ugly azz)

Dear you

Don't let the thick mist of sadness cloud out the good things you have.

I wish I could talk to you about this, but if I do it might make things worse.

Look after yourself and look after the ones you love.

From me

Dear Heather,

I wish you were here, in Oz. Too late, I know, but I still wish it.

Daniel,
