This may not work on you the same way as it does with me, but when I'm feeling sad or anxious or feel nothing's going right, or that the world's against me, I have a bath and go to bed earlier than usual (maybe about 10.30 or earlier) and watch a good film, or a few episodes of the Simpsons or South Park, or something funny like comedy acts. That usually helps me distract my mind from the outside world, and after I turn the light out and get comfortable in my bed and put a film or something on, I feel like all my worries are left behind while I get lost in the film. I know the worries return in the morning, but it still works a lot of the time.
This is why I don't buy so many DVDs throughout the year. I can then ask for DVDs (and the new box sets of the Simpsons and South Park) for Christmas, and because the Christmas holiday makes me feel depressed because we're all out of routine and everyone's on holiday from work, at least I've got some new films and all that to distract myself with.
